Who we are

At Vandebron, we're transforming the energy landscape, steering away from the conventional to champion sustainability.

Now, we are dedicated to ensuring 100% green energy availability - 100% of the time. Think smart solutions - flexible use of wind and solar farms, Smart EV Charging, and efficient energy storage.

QA Lead

Your impact

As QA Lead, you strengthen quality across Vandebron’s product and engineering organisation. You define what quality means for us, translate that into concrete practices, and ensure those practices are consistently applied throughout the product development lifecycle.

You’ll be the first QA professional in the organisation, setting up the QA discipline within Engineering and shaping how teams think about risk, edge cases, and trade-offs - especially early in discovery. Testing remains a shared responsibility within teams; your role is to provide direction, structure, and alignment at scale.

You’ll work closely with the Head of Product, and product development teams, operating as an individual contributor with organisation-wide impact.

In this role, you’ll be directly reporting to Daniela, Manager Engineering.

What you’ll do

  • Define and maintain a quality strategy that is shared and applied across product development teams.
  • Bring a quality perspective into discovery, design, refinements, and planning - helping teams surface assumptions, risks, and edge cases early.
  • Partner with Engineering Team Leads and Product Owners on quality-related decisions and prioritisation.
  • Guide teams in documenting business flows, key edge cases, and technical approaches, with clear standards and ownership.
  • Support and facilitate testing for high-impact or high-risk features and initiatives.
  • Act as the quality point of contact for complex initiatives such as platform migrations, major refactors, and external integrations.
  • Collaborate with engineering on testing environments, test data, and tooling to ensure they are reliable and fit for purpose.
  • Scale quality knowledge and practices through coaching, templates, and ways of working - rather than embedding in a single team.

What you bring

  • Senior-level experience in QA or quality leadership.
  • Proven experience setting up a QA strategy or discipline and gaining buy-in from both business and technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working on complex systems, platforms, or large-scale changes.
  • Comfortable influencing across teams without direct authority.
  • Strong communicator who can bridge technical and non-technical contexts.
  • Familiarity with Jira and GitHub (or similar tooling).
  • Nice to have: experience with test automation frameworks (e.g. Cypress, Playwright) and integration testing (e.g. Pact).
  • Nice to have: familiarity with React, Scala, and cloud platforms.

At this moment, we can only hire candidates who are based in the Netherlands and legally eligible to work here.

Why this role is a meaningful career move

This role lets you move from team-level QA into shaping quality across an entire engineering organisation. You’ll have real ownership, visibility, and influence on strategy, ways of working, and product decisions.

What you’ll learn

  • How to define and embed a quality strategy at scale.
  • How to influence senior stakeholders and product direction.
  • How to balance product speed with risk in complex, real-world systems.

What success looks like after your first 6–12 months

  • A clear, shared quality strategy is in place.
  • Teams consistently apply common quality practices.
  • Quality risks are identified earlier, leading to fewer late surprises and smoother deliveries.

What’s in it for you

  • A salary, based on your experience, ranging between €75-80k per year, including holiday allowance, based on 40 hours per week.
  • An annual bonus based on company performance.
  • 30 paid days off per year to recharge and find inspiration.
  • Work abroad for up to 6 weeks per year (max 4 consecutive weeks, including up to 4 weeks outside the EU).
  • A sabbatical opportunity for employees with three years of service (one month paid with holidays, two unpaid).
  • Special leave for significant personal events, volunteering and an additional day for religious or personal celebrations.
  • An annual €850 learning budget, plus access to Learning & Development workshops and programs.
  • A pension scheme to plan for the future.
  • A monthly €50 net allowance for your phone and Wi-Fi.
  • A one-time €200 net allowance to create a comfortable home workspace.
  • A flexible hybrid setup - split your time between our carbon-neutral Amsterdam office and home.
  • Daily healthy, warm and vegetarian lunches prepared by our in-house cooks.
  • An NS business card if you live 10km or more from the office.
