Business Development Manager

As Business Development Manager within Ocean Health you are passionate about our planet and oceans. You are responsible for initiation, oversight and coordination of the business development activities for one or more specific product/market combinations of the Ocean Health business unit.

The position

As the need for more sustainable marine solutions grows, the Ocean Health team at Van Oord is discovering, developing and expanding the possibilities within sustainable marine solutions. One of the first initiatives for marine solutions are coral reef rehabilitation and mangrove restoration.

As Business Development Manager you are passionate about our planet and oceans. You are responsible for initiation, oversight and coordination of the business development activities for one or more specific product/market combinations of the Ocean Health business unit. You will be responsible for generating new leads and win new projects. This is complemented by analysis of markets, developing plan of attacks, account planning and more. You do all this as part of the Ocean Health team and in cooperation with this team. On top of that you will be a key player in growing the Ocean Health business unit within Van Oord, by making people enthusiastic for the Ocean Health program, building partnerships with external stakeholders, developing standard BD processes and developing new propositions.

Your responsibilities

  • Generating new external leads for the business unit within the defined business models;
  • Creating new potential (pilot) projects for Van Oord with clients resulting in lasting business models in the space of Ocean Health;
  • Creating partnerships with external organizations (funding, tech companies, execution, knowledge) that support the new business models;
  • Creating a network of relevant organizations (corporates, NGO’s, governments) in the field of Ocean Health;
  • Develop new propositions (business models) for Van Oord in the field of Ocean Health;

Job requirements

You have a commercial way of thinking and have a sharp eye for opportunities in the market. Next to that you are a proven team leader and coach and you are great in building ex- and internal relationships. You are entrepreneurial, able to translate long-term strategy into concrete plans and take a leading role in driving people to reach common goals. You are able to have strategic conversations with c-level executives and you are able to learn from young starters who just joined our team. Next to that:

  • Completed Bachelor or Master degree;
  • At least 5 years of entrepreneurial work experience in a small or large scale commercial organization, preferably in an international, offshore / maritime setting;
  • You have experience with developing new propositions, strategically designing business development approach and closing deals;
  • You have excellent (intercultural) communication skills, able to forge alliances & align stakeholders;
  • You have strong affinity with the health of the ocean and sustainability; you are eager to learn about how we can positively impact our oceans;
  • Excellent command of the English language, spoken and written.
