Join AQUABATTERY as a Stack Lab Technician

Posted: 4 February, 2026

Summary

As a Lab Technician, you will provide essential technical support to the Tech Development Team. Your role is focused on the physical assembly and testing of our membrane stack hardware. You will assist engineers in bridging the gap between innovative membrane research and functional hardware, contributing to the validation of designs that improve sealing, reduce energy loss, and ensure the long-term reliability of our acid-base flow battery technology.

About the role

Join AQUABATTERY today, a pioneering climatetech startup with a mission to commercialise a affordable, safe and sustainable long duration energy storage (LDES) based on saltwater. Our innovative flow battery technology offers an LDES solution without relying on critical or toxic raw materials.

With fresh funding secured and our first commercial product on the horizon, this is an exciting time to become part of our growing team and contribute to building a cleaner, more resilient energy future.

What you’ll be doing

Supporting Stack Assembly & Sealing Validation

  • Carry out the assembly and disassembly of R&D-scale membrane stacks under the guidance of membrane stack team.
  • Assist in testing various sealing solutions to ensure leak-free operation.
  • Perform routine pressure and leak-tightness tests to verify the mechanical integrity of stack prototypes before they enter electrochemical testing.

Assisting in Performance & Efficiency Testing

  • Conduct structured experiments as part of the team to help identify and mitigate shunt currents, contributing to more efficient ionic pathways.
  • Help monitor and record key performance data (RTE, voltage stability) during charge/discharge cycles.
  • Support characterization tasks that determine how specific design changes affect both the Power and Energy module design.

Operational Stability & Reliability Support

  • Assist in the execution of long-term durability and stress tests to evaluate reliable operations under varying conditions.
  • Provide support during failure analysis by carefully disassembling used stacks and documenting observations (e.g., mechanical wear or damage).
  • Contribute feedback on the practical handling and assembly of stack components (spacers, electrode endplate) to help engineers refine their robustness.

Lab Maintenance, Data & Safety

  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration on laboratory equipment such as pumps, sensors, and power supplies.
  • Assist in the setup of experimental rigs, ensuring all safety protocols and hardware interlocks are correctly implemented.
  • Support the Tech Development team by recording experimental data and drafting brief technical notes on methods and observations to assist in the R&D decision-making process.

Function requirements

Education and experience

  • MBO/HBO or BSc in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
  • Previous exposure to a laboratory or workshop environment is required. Interest in electrochemistry, flow batteries, or fuel cells is highly preferred

Knowledge and skills

  • You enjoy working in a team environment where your hands-on work directly enables the success of larger R&D projects.
  • You have strong manual dexterity and are comfortable using hand tools to assemble complex hardware with tight tolerances.
  • You take pride in precision, understanding that accurate assembly is critical for testing sealing properties and reducing shunt currents.
  • Fluency in English (written and oral) to follow technical instructions and report findings accurately.

Why AQUABATTERY?

  • The opportunity to provide vital support to the energy transition at our state-of-the-art ETCA facility.
  • A collaborative, multicultural work environment where practical observations and technical insights are valued.
  • A structured, performance-driven culture that supports professional growth and technical skill development.
  • Competitive salary plus Stock Appreciation Rights (SARs)
  • Work-life balance, including 25 vacation days and flexible working arrangements.
  • Green pension scheme (50% employer contribution) and collective health insurance discount.
  • Company bike for commuting.
  • Regular team events and opportunities to shape the future of clean energy.
