Research Technician

The position of a Research Technician is immediately available in the new research group led by Melissa Rinaldin. This group will start in April 2026 at the Hubrecht Institute.

The Rinaldin group aims to uncover the mechanisms driving the emergence and maintenance of multicellular systems. To do this, they study the physical and molecular principles governing the robustness and adaptability of cellular structures in early development. They combine in vitro reconstitution of Xenopus laevis frog egg cytoplasm, reconstituted membranes, and live zebrafish embryos, with a strong focus on cytoskeletal and membrane dynamics.

The Rinaldin group is looking for a successful candidate who will contribute to both research and day-to-day lab activities. The main tasks consist of:

  • Handling of Xenopus laevis frogs and zebrafish for oocyte and embryo collection
  • Biochemical and molecular biology preparations and quality controls
  • Cell culture

This position is an exciting opportunity to learn about cellular biochemistry, physical biology, and embryology, while helping to shape the culture and research directions of a new interdisciplinary lab.

You will start with a one-year contract, which can be extended to a permanent contract after a positive evaluation. The start date is negotiable but would preferably be July 2026 at the latest.

Requirements

The candidate should have an HLO/HBO degree in biology/biochemistry, or related fields. The candidate should have, or shortly be expected to have, a license and experience in biochemistry/molecular biology based on Article 13f.2 and/or Article 9 (Wod). Strong proficiency in English, good communication and organizational skills are required. We are looking for a candidate passionate about fundamental research and excited to contribute to an ambitious and collaborative environment.

About the Hubrecht Institute

The Hubrecht Institute is a research institute focused on molecular and developmental biology. Because of the dynamic character of the research, the institute has a variable number of research groups, around 20, that do fundamental, multidisciplinary research on healthy and diseased cells, tissues and organisms. The Hubrecht Institute is a research institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), situated on Utrecht Science Park. Since 2008, the institute is affiliated with the UMC Utrecht, advancing the translation of research to the clinic. The Hubrecht Institute has a partnership with the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL).
