What will you do as a Business Analyst - Battery Energy Storage?

As a Business Analyst you are a crucial member in the rapidly developing market for Battery Energy Storage in a team that has the ability to develop and scale its activities in this market on a global scale. In your role you will drive the analytical foundations that will set the business direction.

Our ambition is to develop a significant portfolio of battery energy storage assets (GW scale): up to ca. 2030 in durations of up to 4 hours, extending into Long Duration Energy Storage assets (>8 hours) in the medium to long term. We are investing (build-own-operate) in utility scale assets at critical locations in the High Voltage infrastructure in energy systems with an increasing penetration of intermittent renewable generation.

In these markets we have a crucial role in alleviating grid loads, matching supply and demand and reducing curtailment by timeshifting energy and stabilizing prediction errors. As Business Analyst you will be a driving force to ensure relevant markets are fully understood. For the immediate term we have several >100MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in our pipeline that we aim to bring to Financial Close, for which you will play a crucial part.

What do we expect / profile:

• Masters degree in business or engineering
• >5 years working experience in relevant roles in the power industry
• Experience in complex market assessments for power markets
• Experience in modelling and interpreting forward curves for commodity markets (gas / power / CO2) and forward curves for power dispatchable power assets
• Proven track record in delivering executive level analyses and presentations
• Relevant network with market consultants and other BESS market players
• Knowledge of key reports and market data sources and network with key analysts (e.g. IHS, BNEF, Volta, Ember, etc)
• Understanding of grid networks and zonal and nodal pricing systems
• Attention to detail while also being entrepreneurial, commercial savvy and result driven
• Learning attitude: willingness and ability to extend experience and knowledge to US markets and rest of the world
• Excellent in English, written and spoken

Core Responsibilities:

• Maintain a network of key information sources that will help inform the business direction
• Provide analytical support to the Commercial and Business Development Teams
• Support in business development projects (greenfield development)
• Build knowledge base of the LDES / BESS topics within the wider Vopak network
• Prepare and present market insights for senior and executive Vopak stakeholders
• Prepare Investment Proposals
