As our Manager Software Engineering, you will take ownership of the team, consisting of approximately 10-15 skilled engineers.
In this role, you will:
- Lead and inspire your team in developing software for new products, managing product lifecycles, and delivering customer-specific solutions.
- Drive standardization and modularization, and continuously improve global processes and ways of working.
- Ensure optimal execution of projects within a multidisciplinary structure, meeting objectives, timelines, and budgets.
- Enhance collaboration across functions and define and implement a clear strategy and vision for the department.

🔍 About the Role
The team manager controls engineering is responsible for the controls and electrical engineering activities across development & sustainment projects for the entire poultry value chain, thereby safeguarding the technical integrity of the solutions.
🧠 What You’ll Do
- You will be leading a multidisciplinary team of (10-15) controls and hardware engineers.
- Accountable for delivering controls and electrical functionality into projects.
- Manage the scope and timeline of important functionalities delivered from internal stakeholders & suppliers (Software solutions & sustainment engineering).
- Accountable for the technical integrity of the output from your team members.
- Coach, motivate and challenge individual team members.
- Set goals for team members and perform year-end reviews.
- Responsible for the planning and prioritization of the workload of your team in NPD projects.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and subsequently start and follow-up initiatives.
- Shape your team, including screening and hiring of engineers, and developing the hard and soft skills of your team.
- Develop and execute strategic workforce planning.
- Manage relationships with a multitude of internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop and safeguard one way-of-working to secure consistent and qualitative output of the team.
- Work closely together with Innovation Product Managers, Project Managers and other Engineering Managers.
- Stay up-to-date with the most recent technical developments and identify opportunities for Marel.
- Support the Manager Design Engineering in creating a long-term technical road map.
- Set a clear vision for your department towards the future and develop and execute a transition plan.
🛠️ Required Skills & Experience
The position demands technical leadership and good analytical skills to oversee complex problems. You need to be able to lead a team towards technically robust solutions, and possess the following skills:
- Excellent English skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong technical knowledge in (PLC) software and electrical engineering.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Capability of managing high degrees of complexity.
- Pro-active with a mindset to get things done.
- Results oriented with ability to plan and deliver against deadlines.
- Able to coach and challenge others.
- Clear and effective communication at multiple levels and with a multitude of disciplines.
- Building and maintaining a network in the internal organization as well as outside.
- A real team-player.
- Experience with agile/scrum project execution and associated tools (Jira, GitLab or similar) is a plus.
Including the following education, knowledge and experience:
- Bachelor, Master or PhD degree in Software, Mechatronics, Electronics or related field.
- Working experience within the food-domain, preferably within the poultry industry, is a plus.
- +3 years of experience as team manager/lead/coordinator or related job profile, preferably within an R&D environment.
- Experience working in multicultural and multidisciplinary organizations, with a comfort in navigating diverse teams and environments.
- Skilled in English and Dutch, both written and verbal, ensuring clear and effective communication.
