At TenneT, we work every day on tomorrow’s electricity grid. We play a leading role in the energy transition and are rapidly expanding our offshore grid.

As part of this ambition, TenneT is delivering the 2GW program, realizing multiple 2GW HVDC Grid Connection Systems that connect offshore wind farms in the North Sea to the Dutch electricity grid by 2031. For this program, we are looking for a Technical Specialist Electrical Systems who will contribute to the successful realization and operational readiness of our offshore grid infrastructure.

As Technical Specialist Electrical Systems, you are responsible for steering the engineering and commissioning of the auxiliary electrical systems at the onshore converter station Maasvlakte, where the HVDC cable from the offshore platform is connected to the national grid. You ensure timely execution, technical compliance, quality, and safe delivery in accordance with TenneT standards.

You work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and act as TenneT’s technical representative by witnessing and verifying the Contractor’s design, testing, installation, and (pre-)commissioning activities.

Your main responsibilities

  • Familiarize yourself in detail with the design of the auxiliary systems at the onshore converter station Maasvlakte, including HVAC, low-voltage distribution, UPS, fire detection, fire-fighting systems, lighting, lightning protection, earthing, and bonding.
  • Review technical documentation submitted by the Contractor.
  • Witness routine tests, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for auxiliary systems and related SCADA systems, ensuring quality control during the execution phase.
  • Document test results and manage deviations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable technical, regulatory, and TenneT standards.
  • Identify and manage technical and planning-related risks throughout the execution phase and escalate issues in a timely manner to the Contractor and TenneT project management.
  • Verify the Contractor’s testing and commissioning plans.
  • Witness commissioning activities to ensure delivery of a compliant and reliable grid connection.
  • Promote a safe working environment by ensuring adherence to Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Your profile & background

At TenneT, we value professionals who take ownership, collaborate effectively, and contribute to a reliable and sustainable energy system.

You bring:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, or a comparable engineering discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with power distribution systems, HVAC, and other building-related and auxiliary electrical systems.
  • Understanding of DCS systems and PLC-controlled auxiliary systems and their integration with SCADA.
  • Experience with engineering, construction, testing, and commissioning of complex infrastructure or energy projects.
  • A proactive, enthusiastic, and responsible attitude with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Assertiveness, initiative, independence, and strong communication skills, combined with the ability to work well in a team.
  • The ability to coordinate on a technical level with internal stakeholders (e.g. System Operations, Asset Management, Operations & Maintenance) and external parties.
  • Fluency in both Dutch and English, verbally and in writing.
  • A valid driver’s license, as regular travel to project locations is required. The working location is on average 3–4 days per week at the Maasvlakte converter station and 1 day per week in Arnhem.
  • Willingness to work in a UAV-GC contract environment, where the Contractor is responsible for engineering and commissioning and TenneT’s role is to witness and verify the Contractor’s activities.

Shape Our offer

TenneT gives you the opportunity to contribute to a sustainable energy future. Together with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders, you work on innovative solutions that enable the energy transition. You’ll have room to develop your talents in an environment where your growth is a priority.

  • A permanent contract with a two-month probation period based on 40 hours per week or year contract with the intention to be determined after 1 or 2 years.
  • Market-conform salary in scale 8: €4151 to €8197 per month, excluding 8% holiday pay and a 6% year-end bonus, with 70% pension contribution.
  • Flexible benefits including hybrid working, travel allowance, internet reimbursement, and a home office allowance.
  • Support for wellbeing, including contributions to fitness membership and health insurance.
  • Development opportunities via the TenneT Academy.
