We’re looking for someone who together with the teams and their environment can form a vision and can translate that into a clear path towards a healthy, trustworthy and impactful financial heartbeat for Retailer1.

What you'll do as Engineering Manager

As Engineering Manager in Retailer 1 Foundation – Financials, you’ll lead two high-impact teams focused on streamlining the financial flow of Retailer 1 on behalf of the whole area and thus ensuring a big chunk of bol’s overall financial results.

You’ll manage around 10 colleagues and report to a Head of Engineering. You will join a team of 3 other Engineering Managers who together make up the Engineering Leadership team of Retailer 1. In R1 Foundation you will be 1 of 2 Engineering Managers, collaborating with 1 Group Product Manager; day to day you will have primary focus on the financial part of Foundation.

You’ll own the full engineering lifecycle, from discovery and delivery to operations and continuous improvement. Your technical leadership will help steer architecture and process, while your people leadership will elevate individual growth and team cohesion. You’ll also work closely with Product leaders to shape the roadmap and align it with bol’s strategic ambitions.

Beyond team delivery, you’ll:

  • Drive engineering quality, resilience, and best practices
  • Support hiring and team composition, attracting top-tier talent
  • Use data and metrics to foster a culture of performance and growth
  • Champion collaboration within tech and between tech and business
  • Manage budgets for tech services, cloud infrastructure, and tooling
  • Mitigate technical and compliance risks

Key qualifications:

  • 5+ years of relevant software engineering experience
  • 2+ years of technical leadership experience
  • Strong coaching and mentoring abilities
  • Track record of driving engineering excellence and cross-functional collaboration
  • Experience working with a tech vision and bringing strategy to life via impactful delivery
