Senior Portfolio Manager Private Equity Direct Ventures bij APG

Dit wordt je functie

Are you an experienced investment professional with a strong M&A background and a passion for sustainability? APG is looking for a Senior Portfolio Manager to join its Private Equity Direct Ventures team, managing the ANEB mandate on behalf of ABP. This is a unique opportunity to help scale high-impact companies that drive the energy transition, circularity, sustainable food systems, and biodiversity.

About the Role

As Senior Portfolio Manager, you will lead the sourcing, structuring, and execution of direct investments in fast-growing European ventures. You will work closely with the Fund Manager and fellow investment professionals to build and manage a portfolio of early-stage companies (Series A/B), contributing to long-term financial returns and measurable environmental impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investment Origination & Execution: Identify promising companies aligned with ANEB’s themes. Lead due diligence, develop investment proposals, and structure transactions.
  • Portfolio Management: Co-manage existing holdings, maintain active engagement with portfolio companies, and monitor performance.
  • Strategic Insight: Contribute to portfolio strategy and thematic positioning across energy transition, circularity, food & agri, and biodiversity.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Represent APG in interactions with founders, co-investors, and external partners.
  • Reporting & Analysis: Deliver clear reporting on portfolio performance, market trends, and impact metrics.

About the ANEB Mandate

The ABP Netherlands Energy Transition & Biodiversity Fund (ANEB) is a €250 million direct investment mandate focused on scaling mission-driven companies that contribute to:

  • Energy Transition: Renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable mobility
  • Circularity: Waste reduction, sustainable materials, circular business models
  • Food & Agriculture: Alternative proteins, regenerative agriculture, carbon-neutral food production
  • Biodiversity: Nature restoration, sustainable land and water use

ANEB specializes in Series A and B investments, typically between €5–15 million, and takes minority equity stakes in ventures with strong traction and scalable impact.

About the Team

You will join a team of six experienced investment professionals based in Amsterdam. The team combines institutional scale with venture agility, operating with a bottom-up investment approach and a top-down view on global impact themes. The team has a strong track record in sourcing and managing direct investments across Europe.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a decisive, entrepreneurial, and analytically strong professional who thrives in a dynamic and purpose-driven environment. You combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution and have a deep understanding of the energy/food/materials transition and related topics.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, or a related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification (e.g., CFA, CAIA) or willingness to pursue one.
  • 10+ years of relevant hands-on experience in M&A, private equity, venture capital, or asset management.
  • Strong financial modeling and analytical skills.
  • Deep understanding of energy transition, circularity, or sustainable food/agriculture.
  • Passion for sustainable investing and measurable impact.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; Dutch is a plus.

Our offer

  • A guaranteed year-end bonus of 8.33%;
  • A target driven bonus scheme;
  • A very attractive fixed mobility allowance;
  • Ample attention to your vitality and personal development;
  • Ability to grow your professional network, internally as well as externally;
  • Working from home for 2 to 3 days, and also working from one of our beautiful offices;
  • And of course a well-organized pension.

For pension provider APG, pensions are about people, life and how we live together. Through careful asset management, pension administration, communication and advice, APG wants to help build a decent future in which we share our well-being and prosperity honestly and sustainably. For present and future generations. For today, tomorrow and beyond.

APG is committed to serving 4.7 million people in the Netherlands. That explains the importance we attach to reflecting Dutch society. To that end, APG strives for an inclusive work environment in which everyone can be themselves and their unique qualities are embraced.

Choosing APG means choosing a job in which you contribute to a bright future.
