Become a Deputy research manager at TNO Solar!
In Europe, the energy transition is in full swing to achieve a CO2-free energy system in 2050. Solar energy plays a very important role in that scenario.
The Solar Research groups of TNO consist of a diverse and international team of about 90 professionals in Eindhoven and Petten. Together with industrial and scientific partners and clients, the group works on research and development in the field of solar technologies and its integration into surfaces in our living environment. To this end, we have excellent technical facilities and in-depth expertise on all aspects of the PV value chain; from small solar cells to scale-up processes on semi-industrial pilot lines. Furthermore, these solar cells and modules must have a circular design and be intrinsically reliable and safe. This entails new solar cell design, new process and equipment development, reliability and lifetime testing, prototyping, field testing, development of advanced characterization and performance models. Our ambition is to support the energy transition by delivering sustainable, reliable and highly efficient solar technologies which can be integrated everywhere.
We are looking for a colleague who, together with the Research Managers, will ensure that this expertise group, which consists of driven, enthusiastic and committed employees, is optimally facilitated to perform well in the coming years. It is your task to create the right conditions under which employees have maximum impact on the energy transition with their research and innovation projects.
You will be deputy Research Manager under the supervision of the Research Manager of STA in Eindhoven. You will focus on supporting and facilitating day-to-day operational work of the TNO Solar teams both in Eindhoven and Petten locations. A typical aspect of TNO is that as deputy Research Manager you are very close to the employees. You understand (in broad terms) what they are working on and create the ideal preconditions so that they can do their work as well as possible. To effectively do this, you will work on a weekly basis both in Petten as well as in Eindhoven.
Practically, you will help the team leads managing the capacity planning, and matching the demand for knowledge and competencies from projects with the supply of these from the teams. In doing so, you will maintain a good balance between optimal results and the professional development of our employees. You will also be responsible for the lab operation and its equipment. You ensure that the various facilities, instruments and equipment are used safely and efficiently.
As part of the Solar management team, as deputy Research Manager you really connect with the employees and create an inspiring and safe working environment for them. You are an excellent organizer and have a knack for connecting people. You understand the relationships within TNO and dare to make decisions when it comes down to it. For this, it is important that you do not get lost in details, but can delegate well.
You have a demonstrable affinity with applied scientific research and the energy transition and preferably some experience with solar energy. Furthermore, you have excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
The deputy Research Manager position is part of the leadership team (LD), where you are growing in operational leadership.
