About your role
As a senior bioinformatician, you are responsible for the innovation and implementation projects in the lab of genome diagnostics. Your role in projects can vary from project owner to project manager to scrum master. You provide input on the prioritization of future projects and you initiate proposals to further move our diagnostic applications to the cutting edge of technology. At the same time you are responsible for the quality assurance of the bioinformatics procedures. You develop automated procedures & data analysis pipelines and provide quality assurance through documentation, validation, verification & standard operating procedures (SOP) according to ISO 15189 and IEC-62304 standards.

About your workplace
You will work in the laboratory of Genome Analysis, which is part of the Human Genetics department. Within the laboratory you are part of the bioinformatics team which plays an essential part in many, if not all, innovation and implementation projects. In the operational setting, our team receives and processes large amounts of Next Generation Sequencing data. The bulk of this data consists of short read sequencing data (Illumina), but also of long read sequencing data (Oxford Nanopore, Pacific Biosciences) and optical genome mapping data (Bionano). To process the data, we utilize our local on-premise High-Performance Compute (HPC) cluster with 4000+ CPU / GPU cores.
The bioinformatics team bridges the gap between life sciences and data sciences and currently consists of a diverse group of 12 employees. The team handles routine processing of genomics data in diagnostics & research applications. At the same time each member is allocated to innovation & implementation projects, based on qualifications and availability. Within these projects we develop the data analysis pipelines, information systems, compute infrastructure and data management services. The team is part of the diagnostic lab and maintains short lines of communication with analysts to optimally support processes in the lab. The team is also part of the Genomics Core Facility, in which we provide data processing and data management for researchers at the Amsterdam UMC and collaboration partners. Current projects include development of Single Cell Sequencing Pipelines and Pharmacogenomics.
Amsterdam UMC has an open culture. This means that we hope that everyone feels welcome in our organization and that we strive to offer equal opportunities to everyone. We therefore cordially invite all interested parties to respond to this vacancy.
