How do you make our customers happy?

Bol runs one of the most innovative and sustainable (BREEAM outstanding!) fulfillment centers in the Netherlands and Belgium. To anticipate potential future growth, it’s crucial that we continue to scale up. For example, through upgrades and expansions. At the same time, we want to respond even more aptly to ever-evolving customer and partner needs, which requires technical innovations. Constant expansion and renewal sounds (and is!) positive, but it also calls for solid service policies, for example, regarding mechanization assets and associated support systems. A solid management plan is a must. As is effective management of external parties. Can you inspire external partners to do exactly the right things from service and maintenance perspectives?

What you'll do as Maintenance Manager Fulfillment Centers

In this role, you manage the relationship with and monitor/optimize the performance of key suppliers, mainly in the area of operational assets. These include material handling equipment (‘MHE’), IT support systems, packaging machines, and building-related installations. In other words, you ensure that ‘your’ suppliers deliver on their promises, so assets always function optimally. Business critical because even on a ‘quiet day,’ huge numbers of packages travel through the warehouses. It’s essential all machines (and the support landscape) do what they’re supposed to. Although machines run 24/7, that doesn’t apply to you, as you generally work office hours. Generally? Yes, because you do participate in stand-by shifts, distributed fairly among the team.

You take the lead in relationship management, quality maintenance of support systems, interventions, reporting, and procedures. While tasks vary throughout the year, you’re always the first point of contact for suppliers, for example, for consultations with internal stakeholders and project-related issues. You seek (and find!) practical solutions with suppliers and internal colleagues. You also participate in various meetings (asset, logistics, governance, and safety), provide clear reports, and address technical topics. For example, when suppliers need guidance or the impact is potentially significant (downtime is not an option). Although our suppliers provide all the support, you still have one foot in the operational realm, representing the tactical steering perspective.

  • You manage, empower, and challenge suppliers in the operational phases and - together with our suppliers -, you ensure optimal performance of operational assets perform optimally.
  • You cover and work from multiple locations and collaborate with fellow Maintenance Managers to identify and execute warehouse improvements.
  • You brainstorm with Residential Maintenance Managers to improve reporting, including reports related to support systems.
  • You work intensively with the Maintenance Managers of the other bol fulfillment centers and ensure procedures and ways of working align.
  • You're a sparring partner for the Contract Manager and provide management information, such as reports on performance, issues, and progress.
  • You monitor supplier KPIs, performance, and costs and proactively follow up on deviations as part of the asset Life Cycle Management strategy.
  • You address operational questions, including high-impact issues, and actively limit or eliminate risks.
  • You ensure projects that supplement the installed base are properly implemented and documented.
  • You oversee processes (incident and problem handling, implementing changes, performing root-cause analyses), together with the Contract Manager.
  • You are a technically adept bridge between innovation, realization, and management.
  • You are occasionally available outside of office hours - extra compensation is a given.

Why you can make a difference

Because you’re a thoughtful, positively critical sparring partner for maintenance suppliers of support and reporting systems. Thanks to your experience with technical systems, you’re a knowledgeable and persuasive conversation partner for external technical specialists. This is important because there are many ‘externals’ around, and it’s up to you to get them on board and inspire them to perform like champs. You communicate clearly and efficiently in English and Dutch and combine this knack for excellent communication with guiding and coaching skills.

  • Dizzy Root-Cause Analyses, Reporting systems, IT support systems, computerized maintenance management? All terms that make you dizzy.
  • Exactly once You believe improvements should perform optimally after a single intervention.
  • Harsh taskmaster You don't want to empower suppliers; you’d rather, judge them harshly and solely on performance.
  • The right experience You work at a Bachelor's level and are at home in logistics settings.
  • Insider You have relevant experience in a similar position and/or have completed a relevant study and can spar with technical suppliers.
  • Hard and soft You can manage the implementation and operation of 'technology' at a tactical level and understand mechanization solutions from both software and hardware perspectives.

This is where you'll work

At one of the best-known online retail tech platforms in the Netherlands and Belgium. A platform where about 13 million customers choose from ~38 million articles. A platform that helps about 49,000 partners run their businesses. And a platform that is never ‘finished’, because bol has been reinventing retail since 1999, and we’ll continue to do so. If something can be made better, we make it better! Together with our customers, partners, and more than 2,900 colleagues. In this role, you’ll work in a highly self-steering and supportive team of Maintenance Managers and Technical Coordinators. You’ll mainly work in Waalwijk, with regular team days at our HQ in Utrecht.
