The lab is part of a unit focusing on cells of the innate immune system and their signaling pathways and aims to increase the understanding of disease biology to translate the newly gained knowledge into novel medicines. We work in close collaborations with other labs in and outside of BR and are equipped with state-of-the-art cellular and molecular technologies. Currently, we focus on a rare autoimmune rheumatic disease called Systemic Sclerosis. It is a complex immune-mediated disease of the connective tissue caused by autoimmune responses, vasculopathy and tissue fibrosis with very limited understanding of disease pathology, and therefore inadequate treatment options. With our longstanding experience in innate immunology, we aim to identify novel disease modifying genes and pathways for the development of innovative treatment candidates.Start : Q3 2024Duration : 6 monthsMajor accountabilities: The internship is embedded in a pre-clinical research project and is focused to investigate the role of macrophages in autoimmune responses and fibrosis. The intern should help to build up and study cellular co-cultures systems with human macrophages and fibroblasts to investigate the impact of macrophages on fibrosis induction.Minimum Requirements: Recent Master graduate in biomedical life sciences (biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine, etc.)Work Experience: Basic knowledge of immunologyExperience in lab work and cell cultureInternships in other research institutions are of advantageSkills: Enthusiastic Master graduate with a strong desire to pursue research in the field of immunologyExperience in cell biology and innate immunityBasic knowledge of cellular and molecular technologies is of advantageAbility and desire to work in a teamLanguages:EnglishAccessibility and accommodation:Novartis is committed to working with and providing reasonable accommodation to all individuals.
