The lab is part of a unit focusing on cells of the innate immune system and their signaling pathways and aims to increase the understanding of disease biology to translate the newly gained knowledge into novel medicines. We work in close collaborations with other labs in and outside of BR and are equipped with state-of-the-art cellular and molecular technologies. Currently, we focus on a rare autoimmune rheumatic disease called Systemic Sclerosis. It is a complex immune-mediated disease of the connective tissue caused by autoimmune responses, vasculopathy and tissue fibrosis with very limited understanding of disease pathology, and therefore inadequate treatment options.
