As a Barclays Assistant Vice President (AVP) Data Privacy Commercial Legal, you will be accountable for the legal risk management of a wide variety of data privacy and commercial services initiatives for the Asia Pacific region. You will be part of the Global Cyber, DP and IP team, and work closely with other members of the UK/EME/US teams. You will also support commercial, innovation and technology matters, including the organisation’s outsourcing, fintech and innovation strategies.

What will you be doing?

• Providing day-to-day advisory on data privacy and management, guidance and support on global contracts and projects impacting APAC jurisdictions and entities
• Aligning data privacy best practices to the wider global agenda
• Maintaining essential privacy-related documentation including client-facing privacy statements and notices, global staff processing notice, consent forms and key templates
• Acting as SME for data privacy, data transfers and localisation, cybersecurity, outsourcing, fintech and innovation
• Managing stakeholders where legal advice and recommendations on key regulatory, legal and other risk issues are expected
• Keeping abreast of relevant new regulations and market practices
• Being accountable for development of legal, compliance and security policy and procedures
• Managing external counsel in jurisdictions across APAC to maintain an effective working relationship and engagement costs

What we’re looking for:

• Two years’ qualification in common law jurisdictions with experience in DP, commercial and technology contracts, preferably in an established financial institution or law firm
• Demonstrate legal risk management and communication skills including experience with managing multiple stakeholders and be a pro-active team player
• Good negotiation and influencing skills with the focus on commerciality
• Motivated with the ability to deliver quality work independently and consistently

Skills that will help you in the role:

• Ability to grasp new areas of law, and laws of non-UK jurisdictions (or jurisdictions other than the “base” jurisdiction(s) of qualification) quickly
• Adaptable and able to tackle a wide variety of issues, proactively seek solutions and offer solutions/recommendations
• Genuine interest in this area of the law and has exposure to topical developments in regulatory changes and development in Asia
• Some experience with US, EU and/or Asia data-related regulation

Where will you be working?

Our offices are situated in the center of Hong Kong’s financial district, at 2 Queen’s Road. Cheung Kong Centre is an investment banking hub that offers panoramic views of Victoria Harbour and Kowloon Peninsula. There is a variety of local amenities and you will be just a short walk from shopping malls, health clubs and multiple transport links.
