The role

Job Overview

The ESG/Responsible Business Reporting Manager is a new role at the heart of Clifford Chance's Global Brand, Communications and Marketing (BCM) team, with responsibility for leading Responsible Business reporting and disclosure activities across the firm

Who you will work with

This role will work closely with the wider BCM team, the Risk & Compliance team, the Finance Team, the Net Zero Delivery Group and the Responsible Business Board.

The role will also work with senior stakeholders right across the firm as well as colleagues in HR and IT.

What you will be responsible for

Work with stakeholders in the firm's Responsible Business Board who lead the Doing Business (aka Governance), People (aka Social), Environment and Community arms of our Responsible Business strategy so that each of these pillars is reported on effectively and in alignment with firm strategy.

Develop a firm-wide data capture process for fulfilling our reporting requirements that anticipates deadlines and alleviates the ESG reporting burden for our business units.

Develop a compelling data-driven communications narrative which articulates the Responsible Business strategy with clarity and impact, particularly around progress / non-progress versus our strategic ESG objectives.

Create internal alignment and awareness regarding the preparation of the annual report and other submissions, reporting process, reporting requirements and action plans to improve ESG reporting and disclosure.

What you will do

Reporting on our compliance with all aspects of the firm's growing obligations globally in relation to the "E", the "S" and the "G" of ESG – current examples in this evolving space include our annual UN Global Compact, TCFD, and CDP filings.

Lead the preparation and publication of our external annual Responsible Business report.

Ensure that responses to ESG information requests from external stakeholders including clients comply with requirements and position the firm's competitive advantage as a leader on ESG effectively.

Support relevant functions (e.g., environmental sustainability team, people & talent, DEI, risk) with ESG performance information.

Generate reporting that progresses our firm's brand and reputation on ESG-related topics among our clients, our people, recruits, regulators and the NGOs with which we work.

Continuously monitor the environment to identify the market best practice and trends and anticipate/implement any new reporting requirements.

Act as a point of contact for internal inquiries regarding annual ESG performance data and information.

Continuously works toward improving the ESG reporting processes and related internal control environment to ensure ESG data reliability and accuracy.

Work closely with team members, functions and business units to implement robust, audit-proof reporting processes and internal controls.

Member of the Responsible Business Board, works with the Board chair to provide regular updates to the Executive Leadership Team re the ESG performance of the firm


Qualifications


Your experience

Substantial work experience in the sustainability field, preferably working in both consulting and a corporate environment in a variety of sustainability-related matters impacting multinational companies.

Experience in a professional services environment would be a bonus.

Deep understanding of ESG reporting and disclosure requirements (legal/standards) and trends.

Proven experience of successfully preparing ESG reports and responses to ESG data requests.

Working experience in managing ESG data collection and reporting processes. Good attention to quality and details and solid analytical skills.

Strong strategic communications skills

High degree of data literacy

Excellent project management skills and an ability to manage multiple complex projects and diverse stakeholders.

Strong interpersonal and an ability to work with senior stakeholders and leaders, build rapport across functional boundaries as well as people of diverse background.

Preferably educated to master's degree in finance, Accounting, Business, Management, or other technical / science-based education
