Director of Engineering - Digital Experiences Platform

We are seeking a visionary, customer-obsessed leader to manage and grow high-performing teams responsible for scaling our Digital Experiences Platform at Adyen. This platform is the central interface where merchants seamlessly manage their payment, financial, and data workflows in a powerful, cohesive environment.

  • Shape a Cohesive Platform: Lead the evolution of our interface into a comprehensive Digital Experience Platform where every merchant journey is intentional, connected, and reflects a seamless, cohesive philosophy.
  • Accelerate Innovation: Act as the primary conductor, providing a robust, opinionated frontend/backend backbone and shared services that empower autonomous domain teams to ship high-quality features with speed.
  • Champion Intelligent Experiences: Drive the use of AI and smart automation to create personalized, intuitive experiences that dramatically simplify complex financial and data workflows.
  • Elevate Standards and Governance: Establish high-standard design and experience governance, effectively scaling the best internal innovations into global product and engineering standards.
  • Build the Next Generation of Leaders: Mentor and grow a high-impact team of managers, fostering a culture of extreme ownership and developing the next wave of technical leadership at Adyen.

Who You Are

  • Proven Scale Leader: 10+ years of experience in leading engineering organizations through other managers, with a strong track record of scaling autonomous, high-performing teams globally.
  • Platform Expert: Deep expertise in building large-scale distributed systems, passionate about long-term maintainability, and possessing comprehensive full-stack knowledge (Java/similar backend and modern frontend frameworks).
  • Decentralized Governance: Experienced in leading through collaboration and governance in decentralized environments, ensuring a unified, high-quality product outcome without centralized control.
  • Strategic Translator: Comfortable translating deep technical infrastructure and business logic into compelling narratives for C-level stakeholders, engineers, and our global merchants.
  • Driven by Simplicity & Change: You thrive on keeping things simple, navigating uncertainty with a thoughtful, iterative mindset, and are zealous about defining and driving high-impact, cross-domain change initiatives to boost engineering efficiency.
