In this role as Engineering Manager Data Platform, you’ll lead the future of data engineering at Albert Heijn. You’ll empower high-performing engineering teams to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable data platform services that drive data-driven innovation for millions of customers across Albert Heijn, Etos, and Gall & Gall.
This is how you will reinvent food retail.
- You lead, coach, and develop approximately 20-25 SecDevOps Engineers (both internal and external) fostering a culture of ownership, engineering excellence, and accountability.
- You are responsible for HR aspects within your team, including performance reviews, coaching, supporting development, and addressing performance issues.
- You build empowered, autonomous, T‑shaped teams and actively remove non‑technical overhead to keep teams unblocked.
- You ensure high-quality delivery of platform components and services with strong focus on resilience, maintainability, and operational excellence.
- You embed security by design principles across all engineering practices and ensure compliance with internal and external security standards.
- You drive engineering best practices in testing, CI/CD, observability, and automation, ensuring consistent quality across teams.
- You collaborate closely with Product Owners to translate product goals into executable, outcome-focused delivery plans.
- You align technical decisions across teams and ensure adherence to architectural and security guidelines.
- You monitor platform performance, incident trends, and delivery metrics to continuously improve team effectiveness and platform stability.
- You manage capacity, hiring, and skill development to sustain strong delivery capabilities over time.
- You work closely with architecture, product, and security leaders to evolve the platform and ensure it remains robust and future-proof.
Your new team and office.
As Engineering Manager, you will join the Data Differentiation Platform (DDP) department, responsible for the Cloud, Data Platform, and Middleware & Scheduling services that support Albert Heijn, Etos, and Gall & Gall. Together with a peer Engineering Manager, you will lead eight engineering teams (around 50 SecDevOps Engineers) who develop and operate the data platform—the foundation for data-driven innovation across all brands.
The platform, built primarily on Azure and Databricks, provides secure, reliable, and scalable infrastructure, enabling teams to build and run data products efficiently. Your primary focus is to deliver high-quality, secure, and reliable platform capabilities, ensuring teams deliver predictably and continuously improve.
At Albert Heijn, you’ll work with peers in data, digital, and tech—a diverse community with a shared goal: making (online) shopping simpler and more inspiring. The teams work hybrid: from home and at the office next to Zaandam train station.
