Step into the world of cutting-edge research at TU Delft’s Department of Microelectronics and make sure the technology behind our breakthroughs runs flawlessly. Are you passionate about Linux?

Job description

Imagine being part of the next big leap in technology, just like those who witnessed the birth of the internet or deep learning. At TU Delft’s Department of Microelectronics, we’re shaping the future every day.

As our systems administrator, you’ll be the backbone of the computing infrastructure that drives our research. You’ll configure, maintain, and optimise systems while working closely with researchers to support their computational and design needs. Your expertise ensures that our platforms remain reliable and ready for innovation.

This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with diverse research groups and central IT teams, providing exposure to both established and emerging technologies.

In your first months, you’ll dive into our Linux-based ecosystem, learning how our systems are built and used. You’ll discover the software behind IC design and deep learning applications. As you grow into the role, you’ll become an independent expert within a multidisciplinary team of technicians.

Do you want to sharpen your IT skills while working alongside brilliant minds in a stimulating and dynamic research environment? Join us and help shape the future!

Please note: this role requires your physical presence on campus in Delft. Once familiar with the job and the environment, there is more flexibility to work from home for part of the week.

Job requirements

  • You hold a BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • You love to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to computer hardware, software, and networking.
  • You have a good understanding of the GNU/Linux operating system (RedHat and Debian-based systems).
  • You have experience with NFS, Firewalls, Account management, Bash/C Shell, Virtualisation, Python and C.
  • You are comfortable with fundamental command-line tools such as ssh, vim, find, awk and grep.
  • You enjoy growing and are willing to learn and adapt to continually improve and optimise IT systems and infrastructure.
  • You have good communication and interpersonal skills in English (B2 level), for you will speak English with most of your colleagues.

TU Delft (Delft University of Technology)

Delft University of Technology is built on strong foundations. As creators of the world-famous Dutch waterworks and pioneers in biotech, TU Delft is a top international university combining science, engineering and design. It delivers world class results in education, research and innovation to address challenges in the areas of energy, climate, mobility, health and digital society. For generations, our engineers have proven to be entrepreneurial problem-solvers, both in business and in a social context.

Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) brings together three scientific disciplines. Combined, they reinforce each other and are the driving force behind the technology we all use in our daily lives. Technology such as the electricity grid, which our faculty is helping to make completely sustainable and future-proof. At the same time, we are developing the chips and sensors of the future, whilst also setting the foundations for the software technologies to run on this new generation of equipment – which of course includes AI. Meanwhile we are pushing the limits of applied mathematics, for example mapping out disease processes using single cell data, and using mathematics to simulate gigantic ash plumes after a volcanic eruption. In other words: there is plenty of room at the faculty for ground-breaking research. We educate innovative engineers and have excellent labs and facilities that underline our strong international position. In total, more than 1000 employees and 4,000 students work and study in this innovative environment.

Conditions of employment

  • Duration of contract is 1 year, temporary with prospect of permanent.
  • A salary based on scale 10 (€3,546 - €5,538) gross per month based on a fulltime contract (38 hours) of the CAO for Dutch Universities, plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
  • An excellent pension scheme via the ABP.
  • The possibility to compile an individual employment package every year.
  • Discount with health insurers on supplemental packages.
  • Flexible working week.
  • Every year, 232 leave hours (at 38 hours). You can also sell or buy additional leave hours via the individual choice budget.
  • Plenty of opportunities for education, training and courses.
  • Partially paid parental leave.
  • Attention for working healthy and energetically with the vitality program.
