Job Description

If you are genuinely committed to supporting children’s well-being and contributing to the enhancement of their development, the role of Policy Employee in Pedagogy will be an excellent fit for you. As a Policy Employee Pedagogy, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating educational and child development policies. You will work closely with schools, teachers, parents/guardians, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure that educational standards are met and improved, and to create a safe and educational atmosphere for children’s upbringing. Your role will involve analyzing current pedagogical practices, identifying areas for improvement, and advising on best practices in education and child development. You will also contribute to projects aimed at enhancing the quality of education on Sint Eustatius, and support, guide, and coach parents/guardians and stakeholders.

In addition, you assess signals of a situation, consider the most suitable next steps, act in the event of acute problem situations and crises, and may initiate the help of the Reporting Center for Domestic Violence and Child Abuse.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Collect and study information concerning internal and external occurrences surrounding child development.
  • Interpret Dutch legislation in the field, make recommendations, and give advice.
  • Draw up new policy surrounding child development and approaches, make proposals for policy adjustments, and prepare notes, reports, and briefs for management and stakeholders.
  • Call attention to developments and movements in the relevant section of the policy area and respond to them.
  • Collaborate with educational institutions and stakeholders to improve pedagogical practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of educational and child development programs.
  • Advise on the latest developments and trends in pedagogy and child development.
  • Have discussions with relevant stakeholders in the policy field, perform calculations, and assess schemes, procedures, and the like for user friendliness, efficiency, consistency, (legal) correctness, and the degree of acceptance by users.
  • Provide guidance to parents seeking advice for alternative child development approaches, supporting them with practical advice and/or guidance.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a plan of approach; may also have to conduct home visits to clients.
  • Maintain contact with informants and meet with various internal and external stakeholders who provide information.

Employment Conditions

  • Temporary employment for a trial period of one year, with the prospect of permanent employment.
  • Holiday allowance of 8.33% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.33% of the annual salary.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pedagogy, Children’s Rights, Child Development studies, Education, or similar work-related studies.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a child development/pedagogy related function.
  • 3–5 years’ experience with developing and facilitating child-related development policies.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Dutch.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and committed to educational improvement.
  • Fluency in English.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of the relevant section of the policy area and the related rules and regulations.
  • Insight into the functioning of public administration and the organization.
  • Skills in analyzing policy developments and drawing up policy advice, notes, and reports.
  • Skills in giving advice.
  • Skills in evaluating (project) plans and requests.

Additional Requirements

An assessment, case, and/or reference check may be part of the procedure. The selected candidate must provide a certificate of good conduct (VOG) and undergo medical evaluation for inclusion in the pension fund.

The following order of preference will be applied during the selection process:

  • Residents from or currently living on Sint Eustatius
  • Residents of the Caribbean part of the Netherlands
  • All other candidates

A preference will be given to candidates who are locally based.
