JOB PURPOSE

Retail media is a growth driver for Unilever and is evolving fast, delivering reach and sales through highly targeted, data-driven campaigns that engage consumers at the point of purchase. From sponsored products and displays to video, offsite and social formats, we connect brands with shoppers through data-driven, high-impact campaigns.

As 1UL Retail Media Lead, you’ll lead the charge across the Netherlands and Belgium, steering strategy, partnership, and innovation. You’ll manage cross-market teams and the retail media team at our media agency WPP, while building strong partnerships with 7+ retail media networks in the Netherlands and Belgium. Your role is pivotal in ensuring Unilever’s retail media plans are not only visionary but also actionable. You will be responsible for ensuring that all agreements made within the Joint Business Plan framework are upheld, including pricing agreements, contractual commitments, and collaborative targets. You will safeguard the consistent execution of these agreements across the full Unilever portfolio and act as a key liaison between internal stakeholders and retail partners to ensure transparency, alignment, and long-term partnership success.

Your leadership will help Unilever stay ahead in the market. You’ll activate retailer audience data to optimize consumer journeys, challenge retailers, and champion a test-and-learn mindset that positions Unilever as a challenger and pioneer in this area.

WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE

  • Strategic Leadership: Lead the retail media strategy for Unilever NL & BE, ensuring alignment with brand priorities, retailers' roadmap, and media agency capabilities.
  • Team Management: Lead and coach the retail media team in the Netherlands and Belgium, as well as the dedicated Mindshare team supporting Unilever’s retail media efforts.
  • Retail Media Network Relations: Own and nurture strategic partnerships with all the retail media networks, ensuring Unilever remains a preferred partner and thought leader.
  • Internal & External Exposure: Represent Unilever externally in industry forums such as the BvA retail media Taskforce and internally across senior stakeholder groups to ensure strategy adoption and visibility.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Brand, Sales, Media, and E-Commerce teams.
  • Strategic Planning: Guide brand teams in developing high-impact retail media strategies, ensuring consistency and excellence across campaigns.
  • Measurement & ROI: Establish clear KPIs and measurement frameworks to track performance, incrementality, and learning loops together with our media agency and data specialist.
  • Innovation & Test-and-Learn: Pilot new approaches and challenge the status quo in retail media together with the retail media networks and media agency, and scale successful initiatives.

FOCUS AREA

A key priority for this role is to lead and structure the Retail Media Test & Learn agenda:

  • Drive the development of a full-year tactical and strategic roadmap together with key retailers.
  • Ensure clear governance and documentation of pilots and learnings.
  • Set up a structure to bundle, implement, and learn from all acquired knowledge, ensuring insights are translated into concrete actions and future improvements.
  • Act as a challenger and thought leader, pushing boundaries in retail media innovation.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Experience in retail media, (shopper) marketing, media, or e-commerce.
  • Proven success in leading cross-functional teams and managing external agency relationships.
  • Strong commercial acumen and stakeholder management skills.
  • Comfortable with external visibility and internal influence.
  • Strategic mindset with hands-on execution ability.
