Join a Creative, Multidisciplinary Team Driving Heavy Lift Engineering

The Heavy Lift department is responsible for the concept, basic and detailed engineering phases of topside and jacket installations and removals of up to 60,000 tonnes for both the oil & gas and renewables industries. The department brings together a creative, multidisciplinary team of Heavy Lift Engineers, Structural Engineers, Naval Engineers and Draftsmen.

With the North Sea rapidly transforming, driven by large-scale decommissioning of aging oil and gas platforms and the expansion of offshore wind farms, Allseas is uniquely positioned to lead this revolution. Our flagship vessel, Pioneering Spirit, the world’s most powerful heavy lift and construction vessel, can remove or install entire platforms in a single lift, setting new standards for safety, speed and sustainability.

Since 2016, the department has contributed to a total lifted weight of 330,000 tonnes, with a record-breaking 123,000 tonnes in 2022. With an order book of more than 30 assets, Allseas continues to drive the transition of offshore infrastructure in the North Sea and beyond.

Your role

You will be part of a multidisciplinary Agile team comprising creative Structural Engineers, Heavy Lift Engineers, Naval Architects and Draftsmen.

The team drives concept development and basic and detailed engineering phases for the decommissioning of topsides and jacket structures up to 60,000 tonnes. From design and engineering, fabrication of innovative lifting tools and supports, preparation of procedures and manuals through to on-site support during yard and offshore execution, you will be involved in the entire engineering process.

  • You analyse and prepare project specifications for offshore transportation and installation operations, yard preparations, load-out and barge transfer and tow operations;
  • Prepare design calculations and design reports for all (structural) heavy lift design work within scope, budget and schedule;
  • Develop procedures and prepare manuals for load-out, transfer, mooring, tow, installation and transportation operations;
  • Interface with various disciplines (project team, vessel crew, clients, subcontractors, certification authorities, marine warranty surveyor) to define efficient and cost-effective solutions and provide ongoing engineering support;
  • Come up with new solutions how Allseas can contribute to the energy transition in offshore wind;
  • Stay up to date with the development of specialised equipment for installation operations;
  • Perform FEED and feasibility studies to identify best solutions for single-lift installation or removal of large (> 5000 tonne) topsides and jackets;
  • Prepare method and execution statements for commercial bids for new projects;
  • Design lifting gear, such as spreader bars, rigging and pad eyes, internal/external lifting tools;
  • Perform platform inspections at fabrication yards to confirm platform condition and feasibility of proposed installation methodology;
  • Prepare factory acceptance and commissioning tests for project equipment.

What we expect from you

In order to qualify for this position, you should recognize yourself in most of the following:

  • BSc / MSc degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent;
  • 0 - 3 years of relevant experience
  • Highly organized with a hands-on, no-nonsense mentality and ability to work on own initiative;
  • Experience with structural engineering software (FEMAP, GeniE) is preferred but not a prerequisite;
  • Fluent English;
  • Desire to develop your career and take on increasing responsibilities;
  • Willing to occasionally travel and work offshore;
  • Affinity with the offshore and/or marine environment is preferable.

What we offer

Working at Allseas allows you the chance to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, with creative thinking, collaboration and down-to-earth culture at its core.

You can expect

  • Competitive industry benchmarked salary and excellent pension plan;

  • Extensive training and development programme, study budgets and coaching;
  • A company-sponsored fitness scheme;
  • Internal clubs, committees, parties and (sportive) events.
