About Prysmian
Prysmian is the world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry. Each year, Prysmian manufactures thousands of miles of underground and submarine cables and systems for power transmission and distribution, as well as medium and low voltage cables for the construction and infrastructure sectors. We also produce a comprehensive range of optical fibers, copper cables, and connectivity for voice, video, and data transmission for the telecommunication sector. We are almost 29,000 employees, across 52 countries. Everyone at Prysmian Group has the potential to make their mark; because whatever you do, wherever you are based, you will be part of a company that is helping transform the world around us.
Prysmian Delft produces land energy cables from 1 kV up to 420 kV AC. The factory has the capability to produce all different layers of the cable such as conductor, insulation, screen, and jacket in house. There is a wide portfolio of cables which includes low-, medium, high-, and extra high-voltage cables which consist of a broad range of different metals and insulating materials. Cable manufacturing is a multidisciplinary field.
The apprenticeship position offered at Prysmian Delft requires an engineer with mechanical, electrical, or chemical orientation who is willing to work in a dynamic environment. The main tasks of the apprenticeship are related to the analysis of energy consumption data and production data.
The apprentice within the process team in Delft will be responsible for execution of the following projects and tasks:
Provide technical proposals to improve the energy consumption during runtime and downtime. The improvement in energy consumption is one of the main goals of Prysmian. For this purpose, we monitor continuously the energy consumption and analyze the behavior of the various machines. Within the scope of the apprenticeship will be to study the energy consumption data, understand the difference in energy consumption between different products and investigate the energy consumption during downtime of the machines with the highest energy demand.
Identify the weak points in the conductor design and conductor production process with the final goal to come with a technical proposal for optimization. The market is moving towards bigger conductor cross sections and the need for optimized conductors with lower operational losses increases. Within the scope of the apprenticeship will be to review the conductor designs, study the production data and perform a thorough comparison of these data.
Analyze the different consumables, optimize the usage of them and propose more cost effective alternatives when it is possible. The production of cables requires the usage of secondary materials (consumables) which are not included in the final cable but are needed for the different operational steps. The goal is to analyze the different consumables, optimize the usage of them and propose more cost effective alternatives when it is possible.
If you’re excited about the role and eager to contribute to a collaborative environment with challenging projects which drive impact for a sustainable future, we encourage you to apply!
