Be part of progress: Join the Lean Team Driving Operational Excellence in the EUV Factory

Introduction

The Lean team supports the EUV Factory (EF) organization to drive operational excellence as a means to realize the business goals of the factory. Since early 2017, we have laid the foundation for creating a strong pull for Lean principles within EF. The EF staff has embraced concepts like Hoshin Kanri, daily management, and structured problem solving, all supported by Lean leadership behavior. The current team (20 FTE) is a diverse group of professionals with extensive experience in Manufacturing, Quality, Lean, and Six Sigma, gained from leading companies in the automotive, aerospace, high-tech, medical and finance sectors. What unites us is the shared drive and passion for helping others transform into a Lean organization.

Your Assignment

The NXE Lean Team is part of the EF Lean Team, within the EF Operational Excellence department. Our work includes daily management improvements, workplace organization (5S+1), quality improvements, strategy deployment, and project coaching. To help us take the next step in 5S+1 deployment and standardization, you will work on this internship assignment. Some of your tasks will therefore include:

  • Familiarize yourself with the existing 5S+1 standards defined by the Steering Committee;
  • Validate which standards have already been implemented in the factory and identify differences between teams;
  • Focus on teams working in cabins (System Integration, System Qualification, System Dismantle) to improve 5S+1 layout, including:
    • Visual management of safety equipment, parts, and tool storage;
    • Color coding per team;
    • Drop-off points for parts and tools outside NXE cabins; and more;
  • Define a visual management standard in alignment with key users from the shop floor and Lean Experts;
  • Roll out the new standard across all NXE cabins.

This is a Bachelor or Master internship for 6 months, working 3-5 days per week (mostly onsite). This topic is not suitable for a thesis. The start date of this internship is around February 2026.

Your Profile

To be a fit for this assignment, you:

  • Are busy with your bachelor's or master's in Industrial Engineering, Technical Business Administration (Technische Bedrijfskunde), or Economics;
  • Have some theoretical experience with Lean and 5S+1 (i.e. Lean (Six Sigma), Yellow/Green Belt or equivalents);
  • Possess strong communication skills to be able to connect with shopfloor technicians, team leads and Lean experts;
  • Are fluent in English (verbal and written).

Other requirements you need to meet:

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
  • Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;
  • You need to be located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate.
  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
