Join our sourcing team and become fully immersed in the world of coffee value chains, while finally changing industry for the better.

Job description

Wakuli is dedicated to selling the best coffee – not just in taste, but also in fair pay for the farmers we work with. While consumers are paying too much for low-quality coffee, farmers are earning below what they need to sustain their livelihoods. Our beans are traceable to the farm and poured by us in your cup or freshly delivered at home through your mailbox. We are a no-nonsense, ambitious start-up with a profound mission: impacting the world with exciting coffee.

Your role

Our sourcing team is responsible for safeguarding and maximising our impact through purchasing. This includes everything from finding new and exciting partners, to making sure good quality coffee is available on time in the Netherlands. We base our strategy on price, partnership, quality and regenerative agriculture across our 13 (and counting) origin relationships around the world.

As a Coffee Sourcing Associate, you report directly to our Head of Sourcing and as their right-hand, will be a key player in executing the sourcing strategy both within the organisation and our origin partnerships. You are energised by the continuously changing coffee industry, and connect this to the Wakuli sourcing principles to make the most impact possible through the coffee we buy. You take pride in keeping the entire supply chain on track, and are not scared of being hands-on and nailing the details to make this happen. You are a knowledge hub for the team on all things sourcing, and effectively bring information from our supply chains into the work of the wider organisation.

Job requirements

What you’ll do

  • Own sample management and QC end-to-end: sample approvals, insights to share with origin
  • Oversee logistics across the entire supply chain, from contract to end of sales
  • Co-own the green coffee calendar and be the source of truth for all teams on when and where the next coffee is coming from
  • Support stock management with the operations and sourcing teams, continuously optimising inventory value
  • Develop our origin partnerships: together with partners, identify what is needed to take the supply chain to the next level and make it happen
  • Lead research and market insights to support our buying strategy (pricing, logistics, processing, regenerative agriculture)
  • Be the go-to for marketing, operations, and product teams regarding our core sourcing (document origin info, provide logistics updates, log and share relevant coffee details)
  • Support impact measurement from farm to cup

What we’re looking for

  • A recent graduate or entry-level coffee professional with a focus in agri-business, international development, or sustainable trade. Work experience in coffee or a sourcing team is a plus
  • A strong drive to learn about all aspects of coffee buying and bring this curiosity into the team
  • Ability to prioritise and adapt continuously, with a proactive approach to managing our supply chains
  • Fluency in English
  • Knowledge of Dutch, Swahili, French, Portuguese and/or Spanish is a great bonus
  • Organised, analytical, and excited to work across cultures and continents
  • Not afraid to be critical and honest

What we offer

  • A dynamic and challenging junior role that pioneers change in the coffee industry
  • A competitive salary of €2,500–€3,500 per month dependent on experience, based on full-time (40h per week)
  • A hands-on learning experience in coffee, with a tonne of visibility on all aspects of the value chain
  • Working from home flexibility (max. 50%) and an inspiring workplace above the roastery
  • A lot of responsibilities and a steep learning curve
  • Talented international and impact-driven colleagues (160+ people from 22+ countries) with a great team spirit

Wakuli is turning the coffee industry on its head – for the better.
How? By creating the shortest value chain in coffee and leveraging technology to connect. We're reimagining the coffee supply chain by eliminating traditional middlemen and giving coffee farmers their fair share, whilst sourcing the highest quality specialty beans straight from farmer-friends in Africa, Latin-America and Asia. We deliver this coffee freshly roasted to our customers through the my.wakuli platform.
