Software Development and Delivery Manager

As Software Development and Delivery Manager, you will lead multidisciplinary development teams to deliver high-quality, strategically aligned solutions across software, content, data science and user experience (UX). You will foster a culture of excellence and collaboration, championing development, security and operations (DevSecOps) and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) principles while mentoring teams toward high performance. With a strong focus on stakeholder engagement and programme oversight, you will ensure timely delivery of initiatives that support IBFD’s strategic goals. You will also drive innovation by staying ahead of industry trends and continuously improving development processes, tools and technologies.

It is in the mission of IBFD to serve the community by sharing knowledge, content and data through publications, products, services and training. With over 85 years of experience, the organization employs around 250 people across four offices on three continents.

About Tech & Data

The Tech & Data department serves as IBFD’s central hub for development, infrastructure and service management. The department is responsible for driving product innovation, ensuring robust data governance and maintaining reliable infrastructure and service operations across all IBFD locations. Tech & Data plays a pivotal role in enabling scalable, secure and high-performing digital solutions and consists of approximately 28 full-time employees and a flexible layer of 10 externals. The Development and Delivery Manager is responsible for 21 staff members. The team consists of software developers, a pool of UX resources, data scientists, architects, product owners and data lake experts. The Development and Delivery Manager report directly into the Director Tech & Data.

Key responsibilities – What will you do?

  • Team leadership: Lead and inspire the development teams, fostering a high-performance culture rooted in collaboration, continuous learning and mutual respect. Champion best practices in coding standards, ensure code quality and secure coding. A crucial part of your role is to cultivate a growth mindset across teams – encouraging curiosity, ownership and constructive dialogue. Actively build bridges between teams and promote a DevOps mindset, all while aligning with ITIL-based principles.
  • Programme oversight and stakeholder engagement: Drive cross-functional development initiatives spanning software, content, data science and UX, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality outcomes aligned with IBFD’s strategic objectives. Make decisive calls when priorities conflict and keeping business goals at the forefront. Identify and mitigate risks early and swiftly resolve blockers to maintain momentum and quality. Actively engage with internal stakeholders – including Product Management, Knowledge Centre, and Market & Clients – to ensure development efforts are tightly aligned with evolving business needs.
  • Translate the strategy: Translate strategic priorities into actionable projects by working closely with the Tech & Data Director. While the strategic direction is set by the Director, you actively contribute to shaping how this is implemented in practice.
  • Boost innovation: Ensure the team stays up to date with the latest industry trends and technologies and proactively suggest improvements to our development processes, tools and technology landscape.

What you bring – Your skills and required competencies

  • Leadership: Demonstrated success in leading and developing IT and software development teams, including infrastructure groups, across diverse cultural backgrounds. Skilled in people management, conflict resolution, and decisive leadership – unafraid to make tough calls and address behavioural dynamics openly. The ideal candidate is a natural connector, carries authority effortlessly, remains composed under pressure and communicates effectively across departments. Brings a strong ability to unify teams, foster trust and drive results through clarity and conviction.
  • Agile and service management expertise: Brings deep expertise in Agile development methodologies, enabling continuous integration, deployment and improvement. Experienced in programme management and ITIL-based service management, with a strong grasp of Agile tools and workflows to drive delivery efficiency and cross-team collaboration.
  • Collaboration and stakeholder management: Exceptional communication and teamwork skills, with a proven ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams. Takes initiative and ownership, with strong planning and prioritization capabilities. Builds and maintains productive relationships with stakeholders, ensuring their needs and expectations are understood and met through clear alignment and delivery.
  • Strategic thinking: Able to translate business goals into actionable development plans, balancing long-term vision with short-term execution. Brings a strategic mindset to decision-making, ensuring that technical initiatives support and advance organizational objectives.
  • Software development experience: Brings a solid foundation in software engineering, cloud platforms (e.g. Azure and AKS) and modern development frameworks. Hands-on experience as a full-stack developer, including deployments within existing infrastructure and managing legacy systems. Understands what it takes to bring products to market, balancing innovation with operational realities. Well-versed in security best practices and DevSecOps principles, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization and orchestration. Additionally, has practical experience in service management, cloud architecture and infrastructure operations.
  • Educational background: Holds a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, engineering or a related discipline, providing a strong foundation in software engineering principles, industry standards and best practices. In your career path, you gained experience in working with highly skilled professionals.
