Be part of progress

ASML’s Hardware Simulation group empowers engineers across the globe to run large-scale simulations, big data analyses, and AI workloads using high-performance computing (HPC) clusters. These clusters (essentially supercomputers) are vital to accelerating innovation in the semiconductor industry. As complexity grows and demands for speed and quality increase, we continuously explore emerging technologies that could enhance our capabilities. One such frontier is quantum computing. To better understand its potential, we are offering an internship focused on quantum programming and its possible impact on our business. You will be part of the IT R&D Solution Delivery cluster, supporting engineering infrastructure for ASML’s Development & Engineering (D&E) sector.

Your assignment

As an intern, you will explore the relevance of quantum programming for ASML’s engineering and simulation landscape. You will investigate current trends, assess industry use cases, and identify strategic opportunities within our organization. Key deliverables include:

  • Research and summarize quantum programming tools, frameworks, and applications
  • Analyze how quantum computing is being applied across industries
  • Engage with internal stakeholders to identify potential business use cases
  • Propose strategic directions or pilot initiatives based on your findings

This is an internship (non-thesis) between 4 to 6 months. It requires an investment of 32-40 hours per week, out of which 3 days per week are onsite in Veldhoven. It is set to start in February 2026.

Your profile

To be a perfect match you:

  • Are enrolled in a Master’s program in Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or a related field
  • Are familiar with quantum / high performance computing (theoretical is sufficient) and ideally have experience with platforms like Qiskit or Cirq
  • Are a strong communicator who can translate technical insights into business relevance
  • Are curious, proactive, and comfortable working across technical and business domains
  • Are fluent in English, both written and spoken

Other requirements you need to meet

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
  • You need to be located in the Netherlands to be able to perform your internship. In case you’re currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate.
  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

ASML is a leading supplier of lithography equipment, used by the world’s top chipmakers to print microchips that are increasingly powerful, fast and energy efficient. Working at ASML is inspiring, no matter what field you're in. That’s because we push the boundaries of technology: if it’s moving the world forward, chances are, we’re behind it. In fact, we’re probably a part of the electronic device you’re using right now. We’re a global team of more than 32,000 people from 122 different nationalities and counting. Headquartered in Europe’s top tech hub, the Brainport Eindhoven region in the Netherlands, our operations are spread across Europe, Asia and the US.

We're moving technology forward
In fact, we’re probably a part of the electronic device you’re using right now. Our lithography technology is fundamental to mass producing semiconductor chips. With it, the world’s top chipmakers are creating microchips that are more powerful, faster and energy efficient.
