Discover Your Next Challenge at Samskip

About us:

Samskip is a truly international company with headquarters in Rotterdam that innovates the most advanced sustainable and multimodal transport solutions across Europe. As one of the largest transport companies in Europe and located at one of the world’s busiest and most important transport and shipping hubs, you will engage with the cutting edge of 21st-century logistics.

It’s exciting, it’s fun, and every day is different as you work with a diverse range of colleagues from different regions and disciplines to deliver advanced transport solutions. Together, we make things happen.

Job Description:

As a People Advisor, you are the first point of contact for managers and employees within your assigned regions. You provide support on all People-related matters: from leave, absence and contracts to onboarding, performance, and offboarding.

You’ll work closely with your fellow People Advisor in Rotterdam while maintaining ownership of your own entities. You act as the eyes and ears of the organization: staying in touch with departments, conducting onboarding and exit check-ins, and identifying what can be improved.

Together with the Global People Business Partners, your manager, and the rest of the People team, you contribute to creating a better, more engaging workplace.

Key Responsibilities

Operational People Management:

  • Manage the full employee life cycle: onboarding, changes, promotions, leave, offboarding and performance management.
  • Prepare employment offers and manage the post-offer process, including contract creation, system setup, and onboarding coordination.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date employee records.

Employee Engagement:

  • Provide support and guidance to employees on People-related queries and issues.
  • Conduct onboarding and exit interviews, identifying trends and improvement areas.
  • Prepare quarterly employee engagement survey reports, including actionable follow-ups.
  • Facilitate employee engagement initiatives and promote a positive workplace culture.
  • Support and initiate engagement activities that foster a positive workplace culture.

Absence Management:

  • Be the first point of contact in case of (long term) absence.
  • Manage absence administration and coordinate with the company doctor.
  • Monitor and signal potential issues and act on them according to local laws and regulations.

People Systems Integration:

  • Support the integration and optimization of HR systems and tools.
  • Collaborate with IT and other departments to streamline People processes through effective system integration.

Training and Development:

  • Identify training needs and coordinate employee development programs.
  • Support the implementation of talent management strategies to nurture employee growth.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Assist in the administration of compensation and benefits programs.
  • Ensure compliance with local labor laws and regulations.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Maintain People records and prepare reports as needed.
  • Analyze People metrics to identify trends and provide insights for decision-making.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a generalist HR role, or the ability to quickly learn.
  • Proven experience in HR systems integration and process improvement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in a dynamic work environment is essential.

Samskip is one of the largest European transport companies, with offices in 24 countries in Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australia, offering environmentally responsible combined transport services via shortsea, road, rail and inland waterway routes. We are committed to cost-effectiveness, operational excellence and best practice in sustainable transport.

High frequency services connect destinations across Europe, the Baltic States, Russia and Central Asia, both door-to-door (including collection) and quay-to-quay, transported using a wide range of owned vessels, containers, trucks and trailers. To match equipment to cargoes shipped, options include a full range of ISO containers and reefers, including 33-pallet capacity 45ft units.

Samskip's transportation and logistics activities focus mainly on the following sectors: European multimodal transport; North Atlantic integrated logistics; worldwide temperature controlled and ambient cargo forwarding and logistics and European breakbulk and project cargo movements.

Through Samskip Logistics, the company offers a full range of services, including ocean freight, trucking, cold storage and documentation based on its in-depth knowledge of global refrigerated transport. These services are supported by a network of worldwide offices.

In all cases shippers can make real choices based on frequency of service, transit times, freight rates and sustainability.
