As an IP Attorney, you will be responsible for establishing, prosecuting, and maintaining patent rights in the field of lithography and patterning technology for the semiconductor industry. You will evaluate and mitigate patent risks from a worldwide perspective and handle IP-related projects.

Role and responsibilities

For our Corporate Intellectual Property (CIP) department at the global headquarters in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, we are looking for a qualified European Patent Attorney (or someone close to becoming qualified). In this position, you will:

  • Interact with various internal stakeholders (e.g., research, D&E groups) to determine opportunities to establish patent rights and assess the existence of patent risks.
  • Actively develop and manage a global patent portfolio, including supervising outside counsel to properly prepare and prosecute patent applications.
  • Determine potential risks posed by third-party patent portfolios and mitigate any such risks.
  • Handle IP-related projects.
  • Counsel the management of the business line Lithography regarding intellectual property rights, opportunities, and risks.

Education and experience

  • MSc degree in physics, mechanics, electrical engineering, or a similar technical field.
  • Qualified European Patent Attorney (or close to achieving this qualification).
  • 2 to 6 years of experience in handling IP matters in industry or at an IP law firm.

Skills

  • Ability to go into detail while maintaining a helicopter view when necessary.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Decisive and self-initiating.
  • Good “sparring partner” to inventors.
  • Pro-active and customer-friendly mindset.
  • Strong English language skills.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
