We are currently looking for a Control Engineer - Dynamics and Control to join the team in Delft.

Are you fascinated by the dynamics of complex mechanical systems and passionate about transforming theory into real-world innovation?

As a Control Engineer, you will play a key role in analyzing, modeling, and optimizing the dynamic behavior of high-precision mechanical systems. You’ll work at the intersection of mechanical design, control theory, and system dynamics — contributing directly to groundbreaking technologies of the future.

Job details

Main responsibilities

In this position, you will be responsible for understanding, predicting, and improving system dynamics through both analytical and experimental methods. You’ll collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams of engineers and researchers to translate dynamic models and control strategies into tangible system performance improvements.

  • Conduct and interpret modal analyses to predict and understand dynamic behavior, including eigenfrequencies and eigenmodes.
  • Develop multi-dimensional lumped-mass models and correlate them with FEM and experimental results.
  • Validate dynamic performance through practical testing, including system identification and experimental modal analysis.
  • Apply and interpret control engineering principles, such as linear control theory and loop-shaping techniques.
  • Evaluate system behavior through Bode diagrams and connect these insights to mechanical properties.
  • Explore advanced control approaches such as robust and adaptive control for innovative system solutions.
  • (Preferred) Analyze and design systems with non-linear dynamics, translating findings into actionable engineering solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary experts to deliver practical, high-impact results in dynamic and control system design.

Requirements

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with specialization in Dynamics and Control.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in industry or academia, working on dynamic modeling, control design, or system analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience bridging theoretical modeling and experimental validation.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex concepts into clear, actionable insights.
  • A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • A pioneering and curious attitude, comfortable exploring new technical frontiers and tackling uncertainty with creativity.

Our story

At S[&T] we contribute to a safer life on earth by translating space data into valuable and actionable insights. We oversee data from instruments to application, and apply our expertise within our software frameworks, information products and consultancy.

Our society relies on space and scientific instruments for climate change monitoring, navigation, defence and national security, and other crucial services we all use in our daily lives. These instruments produce an enormous quantity of complex data, and our goal is to unlock its value.

We have more than 20 years of experience working on instrument calibration, the creation of data quality monitoring tools, the development of real-time data processing frameworks, and the development of application-specific algorithms. With this, we help organisations, governments and industries to strengthen their information position and thereby improve their decision making. We focus on the following domains: Space & Science, Defence & Security, Environment & Sustainability, and High-Tech Consulting.
