Zet je dataskills in voor de bibliotheek van de toekomst! Help mee om onze iconische Collection Wall te vernieuwen en draag bij aan de slimme herinrichting van het depot.

We are looking for a precise and innovative colleague to temporarily (1 year) strengthen our Physical Collections team as a Library Data Assistant. You will be working on two projects:

  • Collection Wall project: Transform our iconic book wall into an interactive presentation of both physical and digital collections.
  • Deselection project: Focus on future-oriented (re)organization of the depot.

In both projects, you will ensure that the right collection and usage data are selected, enriched, cleaned, and processed to create reports and lists that support decision-making and serve as input for practical activities such as moving, relocating, or reorganizing. You will also actively contribute by generating and sharing new insights based on collection and usage data.

Your main tools will be data from our Library Management System (LMS), using both the reporting module and REST API to generate datasets. Additionally, you will explore the possibilities of the recently implemented tool ChoreoInsights.

You will be functionally guided by the project leaders of both projects. Your home base is the Physical Collections team, responsible for services and management of physical information resources. The team also handles interlibrary loan services (physical and digital) and supports the Academic Heritage, History & Art team in the management, preservation, and use of special collections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Analysis & Reporting
    • Prepare clear, data-driven reports to support decision-making.
    • Analyze and interpret data on physical books in the collection.
    • Work with the project team to propose improvements for the placement and distribution of books and serials (academic journals, conference proceedings, reference works, etc.) based on analyses.
  • Collection Organization & Support
    • Contribute to the redesign of the Collection Wall.
    • Provide input on a more user-friendly layout.
  • Digital Twin Development
    • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Digital Twin application in the Collection Wall project.
    • Ensure this digital representation of the collection accurately reflects the physical situation.

Requirements

  • Education & Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (or a combination of education and experience).
    • 1–2 years of experience in data analysis, library work, or a comparable domain is an advantage.
  • Organizational & Analytical Skills
    • Ability to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable insights.
    • Proactive, collaborative, and experienced in project-based work.
    • Accuracy in data processing and communication.
  • Technical Skills
    • Experience with data processing and analysis tools such as Excel, OpenRefine, or visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
    • Knowledge or experience with AI-driven data analysis tools is welcome. TU Delft uses Copilot.
    • Familiarity with Library Management Systems (LMS) is a plus.
  • Communication & Collaboration
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Dutch (level B1) and English.
    • Strong ability to collaborate with various stakeholders.
    • Professional and proactive in email communication and coordination with diverse stakeholders, including the academic community.
  • Creative & Strategic Thinking
    • Ability to propose innovative solutions to improve processes.
    • Contribute to a vision for the development of library collections, both physical and digital.
