WHO WE ARE

SINTEG Systems is a TU Delft spin-off based at YES!Delft, developing advanced NDT sensor systems for the inspection and monitoring of composite materials. Our mission is to advance the safety and reliability of composite structures, enabling lighter, more efficient and longer-lasting materials for a sustainable and resilient future across civil and defence sectors.

We are a young and ambitious team driven by innovation and collaboration. Our wireless systems enable real-time, non-intrusive assessment of composite structures, removing the need for disassembly or destructive testing. With our proprietary algorithms and smart hardware, we deliver scalable and cost-effective solutions that ensure the safety and performance of next-generation composite structures in aviation, renewables, defence, and other demanding sectors.

THE ROLE

As a Lead Engineer at SINTEG Systems, you will take a key role in the development of our advanced inspection systems for composite materials. You will oversee the technical aspects of system design and integration, from hardware and software development to experimental validation and product implementation.

In this role, you will coordinate a small multidisciplinary team, set technical direction, and ensure that research outcomes are translated into reliable and field-ready inspection solutions. You will work closely with both the management and project teams to align technology development with customer needs and company objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

You will be responsible for leading and coordinating SINTEG Systems’ R&D and product development activities, including:

  • Lead the design, development, and integration of hardware and software components.
  • Develop and refine algorithms for guided wave and acoustic inspection systems, improving robustness and performance
  • Design and execute laboratory and field validation tests, including experimental setup, data collection, and analysis
  • Supervise and support engineers and interns in ongoing R&D and customer projects.
  • Collaborate with the business team to ensure alignment between technical development and customer requirements
  • Contribute to discussions on IP development, system architecture, and technology strategy

REQUIREMENTS

Technical

  • Strong background in signal processing, data analysis, and preferably in sensor technologies (e.g., ultrasonics, AE, NDT, or SHM)
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, Julia, or similar analytical tools
  • Experience in system-level design and hands-on integration of hardware, software, and algorithms in embedded or measurement systems.
  • Skilled in experimental testing (both laboratory and field), including setup design and measurement analysis.
  • Knowledge of design and manufacturing of FRC structures is preferred but not required

Leadership & Analytical Skills

  • Ability to define technical direction, plan and guide project execution
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities
  • Preferred experience coordinating small technical teams or R&D efforts
  • Pragmatic and hands-on approach to turning concepts into functional prototypes

Communication & Collaboration

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics clearly
  • Team-oriented and comfortable working across disciplines and with external partners
  • Capable of representing technical progress in customer and partner meetings

Other

  • Proactive, self-motivated, and comfortable in a fast-paced, experimental R&D environment
  • Interested in multidisciplinary challenges and translating research into deployable technology

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Physics, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • Experience in R&D or product development, ideally in inspection, sensing, or non-destructive testing (NDT) technologies, is preferred but not required
  • Prior experience in technical leadership or coordination roles is an advantage

WHAT WE OFFER

  • A dynamic and purpose-driven environment where technology and innovation meet real-world impact
  • Experience in a fast-growing start-up environment with real responsibility, ownership, and room to make a difference
  • Continuous learning opportunities and a training budget to develop your technical and professional skills
  • Freedom to explore ideas, take ownership, and grow with the company
  • A competitive salary that reflects your expertise and experience, with the possibility of additional compensation.

INTERESTED?

Even if you don’t meet all requirements, we encourage you to apply. We value motivation, energy, curiosity, and the right mindset just as much as specific experience.

We're developing the next generation of advanced non-destructive testing (NDT) technologies for composite materials.
