Internship Venting through porous steel using 3D printing in injection molding

Job Description

Start date: Latest September 2025

Duration: 5 to 6 months

Your role:

You will be participating in the Technology Team – Architecture, Molding and Decoration at Philips Drachten, where you get the opportunity to work on the following graduate assignment – Venting through porous steel using 3D printing in injection molding. When injecting plastic in a mold, we need to get rid of the air during this process. This typically happens at small openings in the mold (ejector pins, split lines, sliders). Using 3D printing, we can print porous structure in the mold that enables venting in places where this is normally not possible.

As a graduate intern your main responsibilities are:

  • Investigate the opportunity to use porous structures in venting
  • Investigate the performance and life time of these porous structures using a test setup
  • Conclude the research in an advice on how to apply porous structures in future injection molding tools

You're the right fit if:

  • you are studying towards your Bachelor or Master in: Mechanical Engineering/ Material Science or Physics;
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal)
  • Passion for 3D printing
  • Eye for detail and curious nature
  • Hands on mentality, team player and result driven.

In return, we offer you

A non-stop growth opportunity within a global multinational company. In addition, we also want to remunerate you well for the opportunity. This includes:

  • Monthly full-time allowance between €500 - €700 gross, depending on your education level and if you need to relocate to The Netherlands. Part-time internships receive the allowance pro-rata.
  • Housing compensation. Should you need to relocate to near our office, we’ll offer you a monthly allowance of €300 net if location is in the vicinity of Amsterdam, €255 net for all other Philips locations. To be eligible, we’ll just ask for the rental contract from your landlord, and your usual home-work travel distance needs to be more than 50 km or 1.5 hours of travel time (for a one way trip).
  • Travel compensation, if you are not eligible for a free public transport card; you will receive max. €192 net as a monthly allowance.
  • Paid holidays per internship term.

How we work together

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week.
