Introduction to the job

As a customs classification expert, your primary responsibility will be to increase the quality of customs classifications for our entire base of products. These classifications are determined based on functionality and key characteristics of the products. It is therefore important that you have a good understanding of technological concepts.

Role and responsibilities

In this role, you will be part of ASML's Trade Data Management team, which is responsible for providing accurate and consistent product classifications and origin used in our transactions to ensure compliance with Customs and Export Control regulations. We maintain trade preference statuses to benefit from Free Trade Agreements and screen our business partners for compliance with sanctioned party lists. We also screen all transactions globally for compliance with export licenses.
In our work, we closely collaborate with experts in the Export Control & Sanctions team within Legal & Compliance, the Customs Affairs team within Tax & Customs, the technical experts involved in technology, software and product development, as well as colleagues involved in the operational processes of shipping products and filing customs declarations. As an expert in customs classification, you will help us in standardizing processes and decreasing our process risks.

In this role, you will:

  • Perform customs classifications for our entire range of products and parts thereof, ensuring proper substantiation of these classifications
  • Determine origin of our products and parts thereof
  • Provide guidance to team members on proper classification of products and determine origin and alignment with our Customs Affairs team on these guidelines
  • Maintain our control framework regarding the risks for incorrect and late classification and origin determination and execution of controls related to these risks
  • Maintain and improve the master classification database
  • Identify and implement improvements that will smoothen our processes and increase compliance

You are also expected to:

  • Establish good working relationships at various levels with relevant departments within ASML (for example Development & Engineering)
  • Collaborate and advise internal stakeholders on core issues of customs & export control classification to ensure compliance
  • Function as the go to person in case of classification related questions from the authorities or internal stakeholders

Education and experience

  • Master's degree in a technical field like (applied) physics, mechatronics, electronics or comparable, or law, compliance, auditing or comparable
  • 7-10 years of work experience in a customs classification role in a tech company
  • Knowledge of and experience with multiple sets of classification handbooks, as part of EU, US and Asian customs laws and regulations
  • Experience with SAP ERP systems
  • Experience with Global Trade systems such as SAP GTS, Amber Road, OneSource Global Trade, MIC
  • Experience with setting up and maintaining control frameworks
  • Experience with and understanding of multicultural and multidisciplinary environments

If you have any of the below, you will have an advantage over other candidates:

  • Relevant work experience in the semiconductor business
  • Experience in audit or advisory/consulting in the field of risk management and/or internal control

Other information

The position is based in Veldhoven, the Netherlands. We have a hybrid working policy that allows for working from home part-time.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
