Introduction to the job

As a customs classification process expert, your primary responsibility will be to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our classification processes related to customs regulations globally. You will participate in software implementation and process improvement projects and smaller initiatives as a key user.

It is important that you have proven affinity with technological solutions in the customs classification domain (e.g., MIC, Descartes, SAP GTS, Artificial Intelligence) as well as a proper understanding of the requirements to effectively and efficiently execute customs classification processes.

Role and responsibilities

In this role, you will be part of ASML’s Trade Data Management team, which is responsible for providing accurate and consistent product classifications and origin used in our transactions to ensure compliance with Customs and Export Control regulations. We maintain trade preference statuses to benefit from Free Trade Agreements and screen our business partners for compliance with sanctioned party lists. We also screen all transactions globally for compliance with export licenses.
In our work, we closely collaborate with experts in the Export Control & Sanctions team within Legal & Compliance, the Customs Affairs team within Tax & Customs, the technical experts involved in technology, software and product development, as well as colleagues involved in the operational processes of shipping products and filing customs declarations. The Trade Data Management team is continuously improving processes and we will be upgrading our application landscape in the coming years. As an expert in customs classification with a proven experience with IT implementations and process improvements, you will play a key role in our journey toward excellence.

In this role, you will:

  • Execute the improvement roadmap for Trade Data Management, ASML and its related companies related to customs compliance, focusing on classification of products
  • Represent the Trade Data Management team as a key user in projects: provide our requirements, create and execute test scripts, create training materials and work instructions for the deliverables relevant to our team
  • Identify and implement improvements that will smoothen our processes and increase compliance
  • Continuously align with your peers in the Trade Data Management team to ensure that solutions are supportive of each other
  • Establish good working relationships at various levels with relevant departments within ASML (for example Development & Engineering)
  • Work independently whilst maintaining proper alignment with key stakeholders

Education and experience

We are looking for candidates with at least a bachelor’s degree in a technical field like (Applied) Physics, Mechatronics, Electronics or comparable, or Law, Compliance or Auditing or comparable. Besides the educational background we expect you to have:

  • At least a bachelor's degree in a technical field like (applied) physics, mechatronics, electronics or comparable, or law, compliance, auditing or comparable
  • 5-7 years of work experience in a customs classification role in a technical company
  • Knowledge of and experience with multiple sets of classification handbooks, as part of EU, US and Asian customs laws and regulations
  • Experience with SAP ERP systems
  • Experience with Global Trade systems such as SAP GTS, Amber Road, OneSource Global Trade, MIC
  • Experience with implementation of software solutions in the global trade domain
  • Experience with and understanding of multicultural and multidisciplinary environments

Other information

The position is based in Veldhoven, the Netherlands. We have a hybrid working policy that allows for working from home part-time.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
