The role

As an Area Service Manager for Area 2 (Americas) at Damen Services, you are commercially and operationally responsible for all service activities, local service hubs in the Americas region, driving commercial success and development.

In this role, you are accountable for the realization of the Area plan, sales performance, overall budget, compliance (i.e., HSSEQ), risk control, and results (P&L, cash, and balance sheet). You contribute to the development of the overall Damen Services strategy, develop and ensure the implementation of policies and (best) practices for the Americas region. You manage team members in line with Damen guidelines, (business) plans, and strategic priorities to ensure the achievement of strategic objectives for the Americas region and Damen Services as a whole.

Key accountabilities

  • Lead direct a team of around 10 professionals, and support them in their professional growth; Lead indirect a team of around 50 professionals;
  • Monitoring and planning the Area 2 projects and facilitating Service Hub Manager Canada and Service Hub Manager Panama, Regional Service Manager and Manager Operations;
  • Formulate and implement Area strategy and plans, align with Damen Services strategy;
  • Drive department strategy, monitor performance, and manage budgets;
  • Ensure safety in operations and travel, support team inquiries;
  • Advise stakeholders on business opportunities and improve local processes;
  • Provide regular insights on Area and market developments to Services Board and stakeholders through reports and analyses.

Skills & experience

  • Bachelor's or master degree in mechanical engineering (with a focus on maritime applications) or technical or business administration education (preferably with commercial experience);
  • 10 years of work experience in an international environment with the ability to connect with customers and stakeholders to understand their needs; 2 to 5 years of experience in leadership roles;
  • Vision/Entrepreneurship: Strong commercial vision and courage to make entrepreneurial decisions in challenging times;
  • Planning and Organizing: Translate vision and decisions into executable plans for the Services staff;
  • Organizational Sensitivity and Cultural Awareness: Understand the impact of actions and decisions within a multinational context;
  • Change Management: Insight into change management and cultural effects;
  • Financial Management: Excellent understanding of financial and broader management principles and techniques;
  • Direct others in their work fulfillment and realization of established results, in a pragmatic and motivated way;
  • Networker with a variety of stakeholders within Damen Services and the Damen Group, such as Service Hubs, Service Lines, Account Management, New Build Sales and Divisions, Product Groups, R&D, IT/IM, DFS, etc;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English and Dutch;
  • Willingness and ability for occasional travel into the Area.
