Join Alliander as a Python Developer

Our electricity grid is reaching its maximum capacity, preventing customers from getting energy connections. At Alliander, we are transitioning from a distribution grid operator into a distribution system operator. This means we now need to actively manage the power flowing through our grid. You will make the energy grid more innovative at Alliander.

Please note that for this role, we are searching for someone who is already living in the Netherlands and is proficient in the use of the English language at C1 level. No use of the Dutch language is required, but it is preferred.

The energy transition needs you as a Python Developer

One of the agile release trains that plays a crucial role is ‘System Operations’. We leverage smart customer products to maximize grid usage. This means we operate in the real-time and 48-hour ahead domain. An example of what we do is called congestion management. We forecast loads on critical conducting equipment, and when limits are potentially surpassed, we request a trade on the energy market. We trade flexibility in consumption or production for money, effectively increasing the utilization of our grid.

We are creating the energy grid of the future, for everyone, with everyone. As a Python Developer, you can play your part in this. Your role will involve:

  • Programming Proficiency: Python, as we expect a mature software engineer you have no trouble choosing the right tool for the problem.

  • Pipeline Management: Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for efficient and reliable software delivery.

  • Monitoring and Quality Assurance: Develop robust monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions to ensure system reliability and maintain high-quality deployments.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with stakeholders, team members, and operations teams in an agile DevOps environment to foster continuous improvement.

  • Security and Compliance: Integrate security best practices into the software lifecycle to ensure compliance with industry standards.

  • REST Services: Implement and maintain high-performance REST services tailored for grid-modeling applications.

  • Domain Expertise: Learn and contribute to the grid-modeling domain, ensuring solutions align with business needs.

You complete our network

Did you know that Alliander is made up of different companies? With our large group of talented professionals, we develop and manage the energy grid for millions of people and businesses in the Netherlands. We carry out this task together and with a focus on the customer. Thanks to our talented people, we have every confidence that we will be able to safeguard the Netherlands’ energy future. Together with you, we will make the energy transition possible.

Having the drive to explore potential is only possible with the right motivation. We offer an inspiring working environment that will energize you in your day-to-day work. At team Grid-insight-management, we build and improve every day on topology processing and connectivity-registry. This means that we model the physical grid in such a way that other teams can use it for grid calculations, safety assessments, and solution fulfillment.

Including you, we are a team of 8 Developers, a Product Owner, and a Scrum Master. We deliver information products and REST services, which are implemented in Python and deployed on an AWS cluster.

Your primary focus will be ensuring our software works seamlessly from development to deployment and beyond.

You energize our network

Contributing to the digitalization of the energy transition. With your talent and strengths, you can do that at our company. Will you contribute with your well-considered approaches, clear communication, and seamless collaboration? We are looking in particular for a candidate with:

  • You are a software engineer who thrives in a very large and complex environment.

  • You have at least 5 years of experience in a Python environment, welcome if you excel in other languages as well (Surprise us!).

  • You enjoy working in a DevOps team (rough estimation: development 70%, operations 30%).

  • You are familiar with AWS.

  • You are skilled in configuring, maintaining, and optimizing CI/CD pipelines, releases, and deployments.

  • High and pragmatic test coverage is your thing.

  • You are experienced in monitoring, alerting, and logging to create mature and resilient solutions.

  • You have knowledge and experience in implementing REST services.

  • You are passionate about learning about the grid-modeling domain.

Attractive salary and benefits package

Based on a 40-hour working week, you will receive:

  • a gross monthly salary of €4,402 to €6,289 (scale 9) or €5,103 to €7,291 (scale 10);

  • annually an Individual Choice Budget (IKB) of 18% (full time) or 12.8% (part time) of your gross annual salary. This includes 5.2% ADV (shorter working hours) and 8% holiday allowance. If you do not work full time, you are not entitled to ADV. You can have this budget paid out as extra salary or use it to purchase extra days off, for example. You choose the option that is right for you.

  • 24.5 days’ holiday per year, which can be topped up generously from your IKB. It is also possible to swap 1 or 2 official public holidays under the collective labour agreement for public holidays of another culture or religion.

  • an end-of-year bonus of 6% of your annual salary in December.

  • a sustainable employability (SE) budget of €500 per year. Choose a payment for a sport or hobby, to make your home more sustainable or to reduce your student loan debt with DUO, for example. You decide how your budget is spent.

  • study and training allowances. In most cases, Alliander reimburses the cost of the entire course.

And we obviously offer much more besides! Read more about Alliander and all your terms of employment.
