We are seeking a skilled Software Engineer with extensive experience in Lucene or other search engines. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in search algorithms, machine learning, and data analysis, along with a passion for optimizing search relevancy.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality software solutions for the TomTom Search API team
  • Participate in complex search-related projects, from initial concept through to deployment
  • Contribute to optimizing search algorithms and improving system performance to ensure fast and reliable search results
  • Conduct thorough code reviews and provide constructive feedback to your peers to maintain high code quality standards
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, to understand requirements and deliver impactful solutions
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation to ensure knowledge sharing and project continuity
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance development processes, tools, and methodologies
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies, and apply them to improve our search platform.

What you will need

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Retrieval, or a related field
  • 5+ years of software engineering with strong programming skills in Java and familiarity with other languages such as Python.
  • Experience in search technologies, specifically with Lucene and related frameworks
  • In-depth understanding of search relevancy concepts, ranking algorithms, and evaluation metrics
  • Experience with machine learning techniques and their application in search relevancy
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
  • A proactive approach and a continuous learning mindset.

What's nice to have

  • Experience with additional search technologies.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based search solutions and architecture.
  • Understanding of distributed systems and scalability challenges
  • Experience with DevOps practices and tools, such as CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with recommender systems
