Electrical Engineering Internship: Data Processing Test Strategy

Introduction

The goal of your project is to increase the speed of the EUV machine in terms of wafers per hour (throughput), which increases the value of EUV lithography machines to customers and helps resolve the global electronics shortage in the next generation product development. To maximize the throughput, the system needs to have a very high availability (>95%) and thus needs to have a high reliability.

One of the challenges is to test both the functionality as well as the reliability both thoroughly and quickly. As the machine grows, the modules also become more complex, and the need for quality increases further. To minimize time and cost, tests are executed at various levels, from simulations to full system tests.

Your Assignment

With the aid of experienced integrators and other engineering disciplines, you will continue previous work done on the validation and improvements of the existing test framework. This includes work on test benches, Python coding, and usage of various automated test equipment like scopes, waveform generators, and data packet sniffer tools.

Your tasks will include:

  • (Statistical) Analysis of test results. Understand firmware/HSI modifications and make it possible to test;

  • Modify and extend the Python test framework. Determining a suitable roadmap for the test framework;

  • Come up with a verification approach for the testbench;

  • Oversee the test setup and methodology and propose improvements;

  • Test and validate written scripts;

  • Improve automated interaction with test tooling;

  • Create test dashboarding;

This is a bachelor/master apprentice internship (to gain work experience) or a bachelor thesis for a duration of 3-9 months. The start date is in September 2025.

Your Profile

To be a perfect fit for this assignment, you:

  • Have a background in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related;

  • Have knowledge of programming (Python), statistical analysis, and communication interfaces;

  • Are capable and interested in doing hands-on work, interpreting data, and proving hypotheses;

  • Have an interest in electronics, measurement equipment, test automation, and software;

  • Are capable of explaining the technical details to someone unfamiliar with this technology, as you will be working within a multidisciplinary team.

Other requirements you need to meet:

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;

  • If you are a non-EU citizen studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

  • You need to be located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you’re currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
