As a Group Sustainability professional at Barclays, your primary responsibility will be to support the team on delivering the bank's Sustainability strategy. This will include tasks such as:
- Assisting in the development of the bank's sustainability policies and procedures such as Climate Change, Nature & Environment, and Social Policy;
- Engaging with ESG ratings agencies, answering ESG questionnaires, working on external disclosures such as the Modern Slavery Statement, CSRD, Annual Report
- Providing sustainability-related advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders
- Supporting internal banking teams with queries or requests for support, or responding to queries from organisations such as NGOs or other external bodies
- Maintaining trackers such as the Peer Analysis tool, compiling briefing notes for senior leaders, reviewing external announcements such as government or regulatory reports
- Participating in projects or other critical activities as may be required
Essential Criteria:
- Demonstrable interest or experience in Sustainability/ESG or a related field.
- Consultancy or Financial Services background
- Good research skills with the ability to gather and analyse data effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and concise reports for diverse audiences.
- An inquisitive and investigative mindset, with the ability to identify key insights or areas of risk/concern
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfort around senior leaders
- Strong time management and the ability to manage multiple priorities / activities simultaneously
Desirable Criteria:
- Knowledge of nature, climate or social topics such as Biodiversity, Deforestation, Net Zero / the Paris Agreement, Human Rights or Modern Slavery
- Familiarity with Sustainability/ESG regulatory frameworks and compliance standards
- Knowledge of Risk Management disciplines such as Reputational or Climate Risk
- Resilience and a principled approach to decision-making in complex situations.

Accountabilities
- Collaboration with stakeholders to develop a Sustainability & ESG strategy that aligns the Barclays’ Sustainability commitments and priorities, and provides direction for standards, governance process and reporting.
- Identification of ESG risks, opportunities, and key stakeholders through sustainability assessments, data analytics, stakeholder interviews and metrics development.
- Management of sustainability reporting and survey responses, and communicate findings to various stakeholder groups.
- Collaboration with various stakeholders, including investors, customers, and community groups, through interviews and initiatives to understand their sustainability expectations.
- Development and implementation of sustainability projects by creating plans, identifying key resources, and monitoring completion within time and budget.
- Identification of industry trends and developments related to sustainability management by attendings conferences, participating in training and conducting market research on emerging sustainability techniques and tools.
