Within Equity Investments the Equity Portfolio Engineering & Trading team (PET Equity) is responsible for Equity Trading, Portfolio Implementation and other related Front office activities.

The PET Equity team is composed of 16 members, including 6 Operational Portfolio Managers, 8 Traders

Position & Requirements

We are looking for a proactive team player, willing to develop by learning on the job. We are very much aware that the role is not something you can learn from books, but people that are open to listen and learn can have a very steep learning curve. We expect you to work in our 6 persons team in Rotterdam (at the moment at least 3 days in the office)

Position

As an operational portfolio manager you will assist portfolio managers with the daily rebalancing, implementing, monitoring Equity portfolios. You will work in a dynamic environment and will need to juggle between a variety of tasks, liaising with portfolio managers, traders, IT departments, , risk management, operations and other stakeholders. The team is positioned at the center of portfolio management within the front office and this role will give you a broad view of different portfolio management, portfolio construction and other investment management activities and processes.

The PET Equity team focuses on adding value to the Equity portfolio management teams by:

• Efficient implementation of the portfolio construction and order generation, including cash flows, portfolio monitoring and the onboarding of new accounts.
• Strong execution performance of all equity funds and mandates.
• Leveraging technology to achieve scalability, minimize operational risk and initiate innovation in the investments domain.
• Continuous improving and controlling the Equity value chain from Front-to-Back including the development and maintenance of policies and frameworks that underlie these processes.
• Assisting in the implementation of new investment product, instruments or capabilities; for example ETF’s, equity long/short funds and equity swaps
• Other front office operational activities which support the relevant PM teams.

Job description

As an Operational Portfolio Manager, you will work together with the other 5 Rotterdam-based Operational Portfolio Managers and you will be responsible for:

• Monitoring and steering of investment portfolios in line with their investment strategy and model portfolio (FX, cash, investments);
• Investing/divesting daily cash flows;
• Responsible for pre-trade compliance;
• Implementing new accounts; offboarding existing accounts
• Identify and implement further enhancements to the operational processes;
• Implementing technical changes in tools and process-related changes in the way of working and daily operational procedures;
• Set requirements, together with portfolio managers for Front office tooling; Reviewing & testing of IT builds in Front office tooling;
• Sparring partner and main point of contact for portfolio managers and other stakeholders.
• On the one hand the role requires the fulfillment a daily repetitive tasks while on the other hand it is very ad-hoc action depending on financial markets, cashflows and client requests.

Requirements

• (HBO) bachelor’s or master’s degree;
• Team player with hands on mentality
• Strong attention to detail and inquisitive mind
• Analytically strong: you are able to connect and analyze dependencies between several processes and identify and implement process improvements where needed;
• Pro-active and pragmatic approach, able to work independently but not hesitating to ask for help when necessary, always taking operational risks into account;
• Able to handle stressful situations, responsive and able to set priorities and switch quickly between different activities during the day;
• Outgoing personality: You are confident and unafraid to approach and engage with internal (senior) portfolio managers and other stakeholders, with the ability to build strong connections and relationships
