The role

The HSE Officer develops, applies, and maintains Damen Naval's Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and systems. The HSE Officer drives a health and safety culture, promoting initiatives for a safe work environment for staff, subcontractors, suppliers, and visitors. The HSE Officer oversees, advises, and reports on all HSE-related issues.

Key accountabilities

As the HSE Officer, your key responsibilities will include:

• Coordinate HSE activities and promote a health and safety mindset.
• Liaise with external parties on HSE matters and ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
• Develop and manage HSE plans and systems, including policies and procedures.
• Lead and support HSE audits and risk assessments, implementing mitigation measures.
• Provide HSE advice to management, ensuring legal and contractual compliance.
• Oversee continuous improvement programs and manage registers for health, environmental aspects, and hazardous substances.
• Investigate incidents, maintain records, and report to stakeholders.
• Deliver staff training and briefings on best practices and legislative changes.
• Mentor and coach HSE Assistants.

Skills & experience

To excel as the HSE Officer, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

• 5+ years of experience in developing and strengthening HSE systems and stakeholders.
• Experience in coordinating, directing HSE projects and in providing HSE training.
• Bachelor's (or Master's) Degree in a Technical study.
• Extensive knowledge of HSE management, principles, and systems.
• Preferably has a Diploma ‘Hogere Veiligheidskunde’ (HVK).
• Excellent references antecedents as a pre-employment security screening is standard part of the recruitment procedure.
• Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
