Computer science internship: automatic scope discovery based on dependency tree

Introduction

Development & Engineering department aims to provide high quality software by using a precise and efficient CI/CD pipeline. The Tin Supply and Refill software team creates drivers and GUI software to control ASML machines. Currently our team is using a manually crafted dependency tree to automatically schedule affected tests in a Pull Request. This method is crude and inefficient, since relations are graphed between full software subsystems instead of individual targets.

Your Assignment

Your goal of the assignment is to provide a more sophisticated method to map the dependencies between our software binaries and libraries. Any updates to this dependency tree should be automated by inspecting our compiled C++ code or plain Python scripts. The dependency tree must adhere to our architectural design, as such your solution must detect violations. Based on these information sources, the correct tests should be scheduled in our CI/CD pipeline. Since we are migrating soon to a new development environment, the solution needs to be platform agnostic. For our CI/CD pipeline, the solution should support Jenkins, Bitbucket, Github and Github Actions. Regarding the build system it should support both Bazel and ASML in-house build system (Makefile based) for C++.

Your profile

To be a match for this internship, you:

  • Are a (HBO) bachelor student in computer science, engineering or a related field.
  • Have basic knowledge of C++ and Python. Knowledge of Bazel is a plus.
  • Have knowledge of or are interested to learn about GitHub, GitHub Workflow/Actions, Bitbucket and Jenkins.
  • Have good communication and writing skills in English.
  • Are a team-player with a proactive attitude, learning agility and cultural awareness.

This is a (HBO) bachelor apprentice internship for 3 to 6 months, for 3 to 5 days per week (at least 3 days onsite based on full-time). The start date of this internship is as soon as possible.

Other requirements you need to meet

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
  • You are located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate;
  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
