As a geotechnical specialist in dike safety, you work on solutions for challenges in the field of water safety. Currently, we are working on strengthening the dikes in the Netherlands, including the IJsselmeer dike and the dikes along the Lek and Waal rivers. On the other side of the world, we are also responsible for designing the first polder in Singapore and creating coastal protection plans for Mozambique.

What you do as a Geotechnical Specialist in Dike Safety

You work in multidisciplinary project teams on challenging and complex issues related to water safety and flood risk, both in the Netherlands and globally. With your technical knowledge, you assist our clients in finding reliable and integrated solutions of high quality, based on the latest insights in the field of water safety. This allows us to create safe and healthy river areas, coasts, and deltas with enhanced natural resilience.

In a project, you are responsible for:

  • Specifying, overseeing, and interpreting geotechnical soil investigations
  • Formulating design principles based on the latest technical insights, input from the environment, and experiences of the authorities
  • Creating and verifying geotechnical calculations for the stability of water defenses
  • Providing advice based on the calculations made and the conducted soil investigations
  • Continuously coordinating and aligning with colleagues from other disciplines within the project team
  • Presenting results to the client and stakeholders and/or interested parties

Not every project ends with giving advice. You will also occasionally be present at the construction site to monitor whether everything is being executed according to the advice. During a project, you maintain an overview and guide less experienced colleagues in their tasks.

If you want to contribute to automation and digitalization, you are in the right place. We give you the space for digital development opportunities and encourage the creation of creative digital solutions for our processes.

Where you will work

Royal HaskoningDHV is a global engineering, project management, and consultancy company with 6,000 colleagues spread across 140 countries. We collaborate on projects that have a positive impact on people, our environment, and the economy. As a geotechnical specialist in dike safety, you are part of a team of 15 geotechnical specialists within the Resilience & Maritime NL Advisory Group. The advisory group consists of around 240 colleagues, distributed across offices in Amersfoort, Rotterdam, and Nijmegen. The advisory group works on various projects in areas such as flood protection, ports, coastal defense, land reclamation, offshore wind, and climate adaptation. As a geotechnical specialist in dike safety, you collaborate extensively with colleagues from within the advisory group, as well as with other geotechnical specialists from different advisory groups who are also specialized in dike safety. We value the development, sharing, and application of knowledge and experience.

What you bring

You have relevant work experience with projects related to water safety and flood risk, as well as experience with the application of Dutch water safety standards (WBI, OI) in the design and assessment of water safety structures. You are open to a work environment with a focus on digitalization and the development of digital services. Your solution-oriented approach ensures that the advice you provide is genuinely applicable to the client. This position suits you perfectly if you have:

  • A Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Geo-Engineering, or Engineering Geology
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with Plaxis and D-Series software
  • Proficiency in both the Dutch and English languages for effective communication and reporting in our international environment
  • A proactive attitude towards the further growth and professionalization of the team

What we offer you

In addition to the opportunity to develop within the most beautiful and challenging hydraulic engineering projects in the Netherlands and worldwide, we also offer you:

  • A good work-life balance, including a company laptop and phone so you can work where and when you want
