Job Description

You will be responsible for optimizing the flexible capacity coming from Eneco’s steerable asset portfolio (e.g., conventional power plants, renewable assets, batteries, etc.) across various short term energy and ancillary markets. Eneco’s asset fleet is growing rapidly, and new flexible capacity is unlocked from Eneco’s existing portfolio. New technologies are being added (batteries, e-boilers, behind-the-meter propositions), assets are more decentralized, and we increase our scope by entering new markets.

You will be directly responsible for the trade result by trading the flexibility on various markets. With a fast feedback cycle from market results, you will continuously find ways to improve performance. Next to the focus on maximizing the result, new business is facilitated. This is typically characterized by a continuous cycle of implementation, execution, and evaluation and requires a strong focus on automation of processes. For all these activities, more and more data is available which calls for an incremental effort to improve models and strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bidding in Eneco’s portfolio on short term energy and ancillary markets.
  • Create asset optimization models, develop and evaluate bidding strategies, forecast models, and decision support tooling.
  • Design and implement new propositions (behind-the-meter optimization of rooftop solar and batteries, grid-scale batteries, agricultural flex propositions, industrial boilers, etc.) generating more value for the customer and more flexible capacity to balance our portfolio.
  • Initiate process improvements or automation where possible to manage workload.
  • Analysing (international) market developments, regulations, and opportunities.
  • Coordinate and cooperate on shared activities with Short Term Forecasting team, Intraday Trading desk, Energy Operations, and our dedicated IT team.

Requirements

  • You have a quantitative MSc and are data literate (data science and analytical skills) with up to 3 years of relevant work experience (preferably in the energy sector).
  • Eneco Energy Trade is a very dynamic environment. Targets change frequently based on market or business opportunities. We need you to be flexible and focused at the same time.
  • Stress resistant in terms of managing exposures and deadlines.
  • Commercially result driven, hands-on and pragmatic.
  • Pro-actively initiating improvements and your drive to get things done is key.
  • Able to prioritize based on urgency and impact.
  • You will be cooperating intensively with analysts, data scientists, traders, IT, and operators. So good communication is crucial.
