What You Will Be Doing

Naval architects don’t just design and build ships; we are essential to keeping them safe throughout their life as well. Our understanding of ship design allows us to make critical decisions on maintenance and repair as well as integrating new capabilities that give the Royal Navy the advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Using FEA to design structural changes
• Contributing to the dry docking of ships
• Taking part in inclining experiments to assess the stability of ships
• Contributing to stability analyses using specialist software
• Helping inspect ships to understand their state of repair and develop repair solutions

Skills and Requirements

Qualification requirements: As a minimum requirement, you’ll need to be on track to obtain a 2.2 in your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Maritime Engineering, or Marine Technology. You must be returning to university to complete your degree.
