Job Description

Key Accountabilities

The Next Generation Consumer Banking (NGCB) programme has developed a modern, modular, cloud-native core banking platform on AWS Public Cloud Architecture.

  • This role will be accountable for:
    • Managing the delivery of changes to the core platform. This includes enhancing the resilience and architecture to ensure optimal performance and standards.
    • Leading the Release Management function and team, responsible for orchestrating the release of changes onto the core banking domains and including the live proving team.
    • Cost optimization of the AWS infrastructure consumed across the NGCB domains.
    • Local management and support of approximately 10 NGCB Core Engineers in Radbroke.
  • There are 6 direct reports and approximately 30 FTEs that report into this position.

Candidate Profile

  • The successful candidate will have extensive Technology Change experience and the ability to efficiently manage a complex book of work with a large team.
  • They will have people management experience and be an excellent stakeholder communicator.
  • As a presence on the ground in Knutsford, it is important that this candidate can build networks and has the credibility to lead across BUK Technology.
  • Ideally, candidates will have experience in Card / Point of Sale Lending products / AWS architecture. This is preferred but not necessary.

Purpose of the Role

To manage the efficient delivery of large-scale technical projects and capabilities across the bank and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand their needs and expectations throughout the software product lifecycle. This must be done while adhering to agreed time, budget, and quality requirements.

Accountabilities

  • Management of the delivery, resource allocation, and improvement of complex technical project capabilities across the bank using Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Collaboration with customers and business teams to manage and implement customer trials to propose technically feasible solutions.
  • Collaboration with software engineers and other teams to deliver high-quality products aligned with the bank's objectives, regulation, and security policies.
  • Identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks associated with technical projects.
  • Management of change requests and communication with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Management of vendor relations to ensure delivery according to agreed terms.
  • Staying abreast of the latest industry technology trends to foster a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.

Director Expectations

  • Provide expert advice to senior functional management and influence decisions at the strategic level.
  • Manage resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Escalate breaches of policies/procedures appropriately.
  • Guide compliance to ensure regulatory adherence.
  • Focus on the external environment to monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division/group.
  • Use interpretative thinking and analytical skills to solve complex situations.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant decisions within own area.
  • Negotiate and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally.
  • Act as principal contact for key clients and counterparts.
