Research Engineer Production

You will be part of a diverse and multidisciplinary research team of three to four engineers. A Research Engineer Production is responsible for the development of high-end technological knowledge related to Industry 4.0 and the dissemination thereof within Damen. A Research Engineer closely follows the developments both in- and outside the company.

You are eager to know the latest developments regarding production optimization, robotics, process mining, and process simulations. You are motivated to initiate your own research project ideas and pitch them to our stakeholders. You conduct research projects in a team as well as individually, supporting the integration and implementation of new technologies. As a research engineer, you will sometimes work ‘in the field’ to validate and test developed solutions on our yards and use this experience to maintain a hands-on approach.

Based on your research, you will advise our business on improving current yard processes and exploring future yard concepts. We participate in European or national funded collaboration R&D projects, working with other internal stakeholders from the business, as well as suppliers and research institutes. You will have numerous opportunities to build and maintain your network, creating an interesting and challenging mix of creativity, science, and communication.

Key Accountabilities

• Setup, undertake, and follow up on research projects supporting the innovation of our product range. This includes gaining support for your ideas, managing stakeholders, and sharing obtained knowledge.
• Provide specific expert technical advice on ‘shipyard of the future’ developments.
• Maintain an overview of state-of-the-art technologies and implementation opportunities within Damen.
• Maintain a network and collaborate with knowledge institutes and suppliers.
• Verification and validation of developed technology ‘in the field’ and in laboratory environments.

Skills & Experience

• Master's degree in Mechanical or Maritime Engineering, or equivalent.
• Relevant working experience is advantageous but not required.
• Affinity with process simulations, data analysis, materials, and structures.
• Ability to collaborate with specialists from other fields of expertise.
• Independent and organized worker.
• A high level of proficiency in English, both verbally and in writing.
