(Junior) Business Controller Freight

Viterra Chartering B.V. is seeking a Business Controller Freight. Our Freight Accounting team consists of five colleagues and is part of the Chartering Operations department. You will be working in the middle of the business. The team is supportive, motivated and ambitious and works together in an informal way.

Together with your colleagues you will prepare and analyse the financial results and support the business with your findings. Our new colleague is an excellent analyst, a good communicator and enjoys working closely with the business.

You will be working in a dynamic, international and challenging environment where you will be in direct contact with our Chartering Trade and Operations teams and the group (accounting) reporting department.

About Viterra Chartering B.V.

Viterra Chartering B.V. has office locations in Rotterdam and Singapore. The company consists of multiple teams: Freight Trade, Operations (Voyage and Time Chartering), Bunker desk, Technical and Vetting management/Sustainability, Freight Accounting, Risk- and Position management all supported by our Digital Development team, totaling >70 team members.

The primary function of Viterra Chartering B.V. is to commercially manage, execute and operate all dry bulk sea freight requirements and risks, which arise within the grain- and oilseed trading activities of Viterra B.V. We manage between 180-220 dry bulk vessels and annually transport about 65 million tonnes of dry bulk cargo globally, which makes us one of the bigger companies operating in dry bulk shipping.

Your role in our network

  • You will analyse voyage results in detail and in total;
  • You are involved in the month close procedures;
  • You will assist in preparing and control of the monthly results;
  • You will assist in the analyse of the mark to market valuations of cargoes and vessels;
  • You are involved in the reconciliation of derivatives positions with third party statements;
  • You support the business (Chartering Trade and Operations) with financial challenges;
  • You follow up on various ad-hoc business requests and you take part in (IT) projects to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting and reporting processes.

Who are we looking for?

  • You have a bachelor or master degree in Business Economics, Finance, Accounting or related discipline;
  • You have a minimum of 1-2 years’ experience (preferably as a Controller);
  • You are able to understand the importance of data driven decision making in your daily work;
  • You have a practical and proactive attitude and good communication skills;
  • You are accurate, have good analytical skills and team player;
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn the company’s business;
  • You have excellent written and verbal (English) communication skills.
