The Early Careers team is part of the People function of the Hogan Lovells Business Team consisting of four team members including a position in our Global Business Centre (GBC) based in Johannesburg. The team collaborates closely with the HR Advisory, Graduate Recruitment and People Development and Diversity Equity & Inclusion teams to support our UK trainee solicitors and solicitor apprentices. Role Overview This role supports the provision of the full HR employee lifecycle service to the trainee solicitors and solicitor apprentices from the point of accepting our offer through to qualification as a solicitor. At any time we have approximately 100 trainees working in our offices as part of their two year training contract and a similar number of future joiners. In addition we have our solicitor apprentice scheme. The Assistant Manager and Adviser manage the solicitor apprentice scheme and the trainees’ training contracts, balancing the needs of the business and the trainees’ and apprentices’ professional development. This includes opportunities to spend a seat in one of our international offices or with one of our clients. As well as supporting the development of our early careers’ cohorts, the successful candidate will support the Graduate Recruitment team with the assessment and recruitment of trainee solicitors, solicitor apprentices and vacation scheme students for the UK. Early Careers is strategically important for the future of the firm. We are proud that over 50% of our UK partners were trainees with us. We expect our team members to understand and support the firm’s objectives as well as representing the firm to the highest standards. The role requires a high degree of professionalism both externally and with the cohort. The candidate will have exposure to a wide range of senior people including partners and experienced lawyers who supervise and manage trainee solicitors and solicitor apprentices. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities Development: Orchestrate the seat planning process, including liaison with the business, providing advice and guidance cohort during one to one meetings and communicating bespoke seat plans Assist with the design, co-ordination and delivery of bespoke learning and development programmes and materials for trainee solicitors, solicitor apprentices and supervisors Conduct mid and end of seat touch point meetings with cohort, acting as a trusted advisor and escalating concerns as necessary Deliver induction presentations and key presentations for seat planning and secondment opportunities Responsible for the application and selection process for trainee international and client secondments Assist with the trainee qualification process (twice per year) Oversee the organisation and attend events for the current and future trainee solicitors and solicitor apprentices including the biannual trainee induction HR Employee Life Cycle: Assist with ER or general HR matters pertaining to cohort Be the HR contact for queries from your cohort Liaise with the Head of Global Mobility monitor and administer any visa requirements for your cohort in the UK and for international secondments Assist with the compilation of annual budgets for financial assistance and expenses, compensation and benefits for cohort In liaison with the Global Business Centre: Ensure accuracy of data in HR databases and HR records for current and future trainees and solicitor apprentices Oversee the administrative processes relating to compensation, employee life cycle eg joiners and leavers including preparation of paperwork such as employment contracts and letters Maintain general administration including tracking appraisals and training records Recruitment Selection and Assessment: Conduct situational judgement interviews for candidates Attending moderation meetings for selection process Assist with the recruitment of the campus ambassador programme Assist with university visits Specific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure, staff location or services.
